Chelsea FC cruise through to the next round in the FA Cup despite a valiant effort from Derby County.
Chelsea have set up a fourth round clash against Stoke City with this win and will now look to maintain their run of four consecutive wins against Hull City in the Premier League. Derby County came into this match on the back of a defeat against Wigan, but are undoubtedly one of the most in-form sides in the Championship presently. The home side put on a good display in the first half and tried to maintain their defensive organisation, but despite their wonderful effort the difference in quality eventually proved to be the difference.
John Obi Mikel scored a rare goal in the second half to provide the lead to Chelsea after he headed in a wonderful free-kick from Willian. It took only five minutes for them to double the lead as Oscar powerful drive found the back of the net. It was a comfortable win in the end of the away side, but one which lost a bit of its gloss after Ramires was booked for diving. Following Jose Mourinho’s criticism of Luis Suarez, two of Chelsea’s players have been booked for simulation contradicting Mourinho claim that “there are no divers at Chelsea”. The Portuguese master mind accepted Ramires’ booking, but maintained that these are only “isolated incidents” and insisted that he will talk to the Brazilian midfielder regarding this.
“I maintain (there are no divers at Chelsea). Isolated episodes. The referees attacking it. The manager supporting the referees. I think we are doing well. Let’s see if the others do the same as us.
“Marriner was so close so if he made that decision it’s because he’s right.
“The last time Oscar’s justification was completely correct and I understand completely what happened.
“I was happy with the card because the referee, in this case (Martin) Atkinson, did well.
“This time I didn’t speak yet with Ramires, but if the referee was there and he decide well, perfect. Let’s do every game, every stadium, every player, let’s do that.” – The Chelsea manager said.
Mourinho also insisted that there are a lot of divers in other clubs and they escape without punishments.
“In other clubs there are really (sic) divers and they are not booked.
“Players are doing that every weekend. Sit in front of the television and you will find them.” – Mourinho added.
Mourinho also praised his goal scorer Mikel, saying: “It was important for us, because we were dominating and dominating, creating and creating, but the goal was not arriving. It was like the winning goal.
“He plays in a very intelligent and safe way. I never recognise his goalscoring appetite.
“For some reason Essien gave him the armband. Normally it should go to Ashley Cole. It made him believe that he was a goal scorer.”
