Hristo Stoichkov has criticized Barcelona for selling Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal FC, while Cesc Fabregas has reportedly convinced Sanchez to join the Gunners.

The news of Alexis Sanchez joining Arsenal has sent the fans into delirium as the Gunners begin to pull their muscle in the transfer market. But former Barcelona forward Hristo Stoichkov has criticized the Catalan club for the selling the Chilean star.

Alexis Sanchez produced some eye-catching performances for Chile in the World Cup, but his future at Barcelona was under constant speculation. Barcelona were prepared to offload Sanchez, who produced some consistent performances last season, in order to fund their move for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, and a host of clubs queued up for his signature.

Initial reports suggested that Liverpool were keen to sign Sanchez in a cash plus player deal for Suarez, but the Chilean opted out of the move and joined Arsenal. Barcelona though eventually signed the Uruguayan international for a fee of £75million.

But Suarez’s arrival received mix reactions from Barcelona fans, who are sceptical about his history of producing moments of madness on the pitch, something which earned him a ban during the World Cup. Moreover, Sanchez was a fan favourite and they are yet to come to terms with his departure.

Former Barcelona forward and Bulgarian legend Hristo Stoichkov, who won six La Liga titles and two European cups during his two separate stints at the club, has echoed the sentiments of the fans and has criticized the administrators for selling Sanchez.

“It is a grave error, but as we know who are responsible for this can not wait much longer.

“I’m not surprised, knowing how these managers are today, no wonder they sell one of the best players of FC Barcelona.

“This means they are not working for the team but for other things that are not sports

“[Alexis] is the best player for his pace, his battling qualities. He fights for every ball, he plays for the team. I like his mentality. He is leaving with his head high. He is a decisive player.” – The former Barcelona legend said in an interview.

Meanwhile, reports in Spanish media are suggesting that former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder, who joined Chelsea in the summer, has helped in convincing Sanchez to opt for the London based club. Fabregas, who shares a close relationship with Arsene Wenger, briefed Sanchez about Arsenal’s style of football and how Wenger is brilliant in developing young footballers. Sanchez also hinted about this in his first interview since joining the club.

“I know this club has a manager that looks after his players and takes care of them as well.

“I was told that he is a manager you can learn a lot with. He wants to achieve great things in football and that helped me make the decision to sign for Arsenal.” – The Chilean international said.
