Reports in the Spanish media suggest that Liverpool have offered €20 million for the young full back to Sevilla
It is no secret that Liverpool need to strengthen their defence department for next season. The Reds were the best attacking unit of the 13/14 season but their back-line was far from being at par with the attack. Often, we saw, that the Liverpool attack had to come and rescue its defence. For the Merseyside club to challenge for the title again, and make a successful return to the Champions League, it would need quality additions in the defence.
Liverpool Echo reported a while back that Sevilla’s hot-shot Alberto Moreno was on top of Liverpool’s wish-list for the summer which indicates that the management knows that they need to strengthen the defence to have a good outing, next season as well.
Moreno is the the perfect epitome of a modern full back- while not failing at his primary defensive duties, he enjoys running at the opposition, committing defenders and delivering the crosses. He has good tactical awareness and has the potential to make the left back spot, his. Moreno recently helped his side to be crowned the Europa League champions. His fine performances also got him included in Spain’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad.
While the Reds are close to finalizing the deal according to SportYou and other Spanish websites/dailies, the deal is far from complete. Marca claim that both Monchi, Sevilla’s sporting director, and Sevilla manager Unai Emery are yet not convinced with the offer and unsure whether adding Suso to their ranks would get them any benefits.
The 21-year-old is one of the rising stars of Spanish football and would not cost Liverpool anything below their offered sum. If negotiations were to be dragged, with Chelsea and Real Madrid’s reported interest, his fee would only rise. Moreno’s agent, Javier Moya commented on an apparently ‘done deal’ between Sevilla and Real Madrid over the youngster’s transfer and stated that Los Nervionenses were willing to sell the defender, but for his full release clause which is €30m
“Nothing is done [with Real Madrid] and my client is focused on Sevilla. Sevilla are willing to negotiate, but on their terms. However, that’s not to say that he will leave for the full €30 million release clause”, he said
It is not certain whether the Reds have offered Suso at all, or whether on loan or on a permanent basis. The Anfield outfit will be competing in four competitions next season and need good depth in their squad. Suso, a talented midfielder, could prove to very handy for that. The 20 year old spent a season away on loan at Almeria and did well, helping the club successfully fight against relegation.
Regardless of whether Sevilla take/want Suso, Moreno’s fee is most likely going to increase as negotiations continue.
