Manchester City are once again set to be without playmaker David Silva, striker Edin Dzeko and defender Alexsander Kolarov. All three of them are sidelined with injuries. Although Manchester City’s boss Manuel Pellegrini said that David Silva might be a week away from returning to first team action.
“He’s just starting,” the Chilean said in a news conference. “We hope that next week he could be 100 percent, at least kicking the ball with normality and we will see if he can be the squad.”
Manchester City already have a depleted squad and with the purple patch they have suffered, City might be more than willing to conduct business in the January transfer window.
“I will think about in a few weeks more because in this moment if I say yes we cannot do nothing. Maybe we are not scoring too many goals and then everyone thinks that we need more players.”
“[We have] to have more concentration, to have more trust with the ball near our box. We need to improve in that sense because in the last three games in the Champions League, we have conceded two goals each game and it’s very difficult to win.
“Also in the Premier League but for different reasons, [when City conceded twice] we draw one [at QPR], won the other won against Hull. We are working on that, the same way we are working to score more goals, working to be a good team.”
Manchester City as it stands are already reeling with defensive worries. Their top signing Equalim Mangala has been in the thick of defensive frailities, while skipper Vincent Kompany was often caught nagging in their midweek fixture against Bayern Munich.
“We are not in a very bad moment. We have the team that takes the most shots in the whole Premier League.” explained Pellegrini.
Meanwhile Southampton’s manager Ronald Koeman, has elated his side to life in the business of the Premier League and if more than happy with their current form.
” “We have played 12 games now and I didn’t see one team better than we [are] in these 12 games, and we played against Liverpool and we played against Tottenham,” he said. “Maybe Sunday, but we will see.””
“Big teams always have individual qualities and players who win games by themselves,In our team organisation we are as strong as City but these kind of players can make the difference.” he explained
Manchester City are expected to be favorites coming into this clash, but Southampton could very well rue City’s resurgence.
