English newspaper Daily Star has reported today that Moreno, 21, is seen as an alternative target for the Premier predators to Southampton’s England starlet Luke Shaw. United and Chelsea are leading the chase for Shaw, while City, Liverpool and Arsenal are also eyeing left backs.
Daily Star has also reported that City’s Sporting Director and transfer-deal fixer Txiki Begiristain watched Moreno against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night. His other target was Porto’s France centre half Eliaquim Mangala.
Spanish international Moreno is under contract until 2018 – so Sevilla intend to hold out for £30 million if they have to sell him.
Born in Seville, Andalusia, Moreno came through the youth ranks at hometown club Sevilla FC, spending his first season as a senior with the reserves in the third division. On 8 April 2012 he made his first-team – and La Liga – debut, coming off the bench for Manu del Moral in the last minutes of a 0–1 away loss against Athletic Bilbao. In February 2013, Moreno was definitively promoted to the main squad. On 4 October he renewed his link with the club, signing until 2018.
Moreno also has fair amount of International experience as well. After playing for the Spanish under-21s in the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship, being first-choice as the tournament ended in conquest, Moreno was called up to the main squad on 4 October 2013 for the last 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Georgia, and he made his debut on the 15th, playing the full 90 minutes in a 2–0 win in Albacete.
The defender’s agent has also revealed earlier that Sevilla are willing to negotiate for summer transfer. “Sevilla are willing to negotiate, but on their conditions. I’m not saying he can only leave there for his £25m release clause fee,” Moreno’s agent Javier Moya told AS last month.
“Yes, Napoli presented an offer in January, but it was not seen as big enough. The interest of Real Madrid? Nothing has been done and my client is concentrating on Sevilla,” Moreno’s agent concluded.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has shown more amount of interest for the signature of Moreno than any of the aforementioned clubs. The Reds have long coveted the young Seville left back , and who is widely regarded as one of his nation’s brightest prospects.
It was reported in the last month that Sevilla starlet Alberto Moreno has privately told his team-mates that he will join Real Madrid in the summer – and that will seemingly end all other clubs’ hopes of luring him.
Given the ongoing competition for Moreno’s signature and Sevilla’s current financial position, it is going to be very difficult for the Andalusians to keep this talented youngster in their squad for next season. However, at the moment, it is also very difficult to predict the winner of this transfer battle.
