Trailing league leaders Chelsea by three points while having a game in hand, Manchester City are preparing for the final leg of their campaign as they gear up for a round of tough fixtures. The club from Manchester face Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final this weekend and Sergio Aguero is expected to make a comeback following his hamstring injury.
Having started the season on a brilliant note, scoring 13 goals in 15 Premier league appearances, the Argentine international suffered from a string of injuries that ruled him out of crucial fixtures this season. However reports suggest that Aguero returned to train with the squad and is eyeing the Capital One Cup final to make his return.
The final is expected to be a relatively easy fixture for City who face 18th placed Sunderland at the Wembley. Sergio Aguero will also be looking to gradually ease his way into the first team as City gear up to face a string of touch fixtures. Trailing by 2 goals in the Champions League knock-out rounds, Aguero will be banked upon as City visit Barcelona looking to put pressure on the Spanish giants. It now remains to be seen if the Argentine can keep himself safe from injuries and help City as the season enters its business end.
Meanwhile reports suggest that not only is Pellegrini planning to finish this season on a high, preparations are also under way for next season as City look to offer an extension to in-form midfielder Samir Nasri.
Having recently returned from injury, Nasri has been a prominent presence for Manchester City under Manuel Pellegrini and reports suggest that the manager is keen to tie the player to Manchester for another three years given his recent performances. The French international has a contract with Manchester City till the end of next season however it has emerged that the club is keen on signing the ex-Arsenal player at the earliest.
Nasri has made a total of 28 appearances in the Premier League and the Champions League and has scored an impressive 5 goals along with 6 assists. Used effectively by the Chilean manager, Nasri has the ability to turn the match on its head with his fine skills and intricate passing. His partnership with David Silva has been crucial for City this year and the French international has developed himself into a valuable asset for the club from Manchester.
Samir Nasri faced a lot of criticism after failing to live up to his billing under Mancini but has since then evolved himself into a crucial player for Manchester City. Reports suggest that City are keen on extending the midfielder’s contract before the World Cup in Brazil this year. The World Cup is the biggest stage for football and a fine performance by an individual always results in an increase in the player’s stock in the global market. Nasri is a crucial member of the French international team that is being looked at as a serious contender for the World Cup and hence City are hoping to tie the player to the club before an increase in the player’s stock. It will be interesting to see how the contract negotiations proceed over the reported contract extension and whether Nasri plays ball with City officials.
