According to recent reports, Manchester United are making progress in their talks with summer targets Edison Cavani and Marco Reus.
Having suffered a disastrous season under David Moyes, Manchester United are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that they are on their way to revival. Though Moyes’ permamnent successor has not been announced as yet, Manchester United has already begun talks with quite a few players in a bid to revamp the entire squad.
Edison Cavani, Marco Reus and William Carvalho seem to be United’s top targets this summer. Having announced their intentions to spend big this summer, United are after Edison Cavani who is very likely to leave PSG this summer. The Uruguayan international has been unhappy with his role at PSG and believes he has been sidelined by Zlatan’s presence in the side. Forced to play on the wings, Cavani has spoke out quite openly regarding his future, insisiting that he will be seeking a move away from France. Coupled with PSG’s woes regarding UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, PSG could be forced to part with their striker who is reportedly being targeted by Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.
Sources have revealed that though Cavani looked to refuse a move to Manchester United given his lack of faith in David Moyes, the former manager’s departure has convinced the Uruguayan that a move to Manchester United could be beneficial for his career in the coming years. The fact that Manchester United seem most interested in the striker could swing the balance in the Reds’ favour according to the sources.
“Edison Cavani believes he will be a perfect fit in England. He knows that United, Manchester City and Chelsea are all interested and would be happy to talk to any of them. But he also knows United seem the most keen and that is a factor.”
Even though Manchester United will be out of Champions League next season, Cavani has been convinced that it is a temporary situation and that the club will bounce back strongly in the coming months.
The Red Devils are also looking towards Marco Reus to provide them impetus on the wings after it was revealed that the German dreams to play for Manchester United. Former teammate Gotze revealed earlier that Marco Reus was always keen to move to Manchester United and could be on his way to Old Trafford this summer. Though there were reports regarding Dortmund offering him a new contract, the winger has kept quiet regarding his future. Quite interestingly, he chose to deny the rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United, suggesting that he is contemplating United’s potential offer.
“I’m not saying anything about my contract. But I do have the time to emphasise how good I feel at Dortmund.”
It now remains to be seen how the summer pans out for Manchester United. Playing under interim-manager Ryan Giggs, the Red Devils are aware that the coming transfer window could be the most important one for them in more than a decade. Desperate to stage a comeback in the coming campaign, Manchester United will be looking to make a big statement as summer approaches. Though whether it still remains the top destination for young players in Europe is something that is left to be seen.
