Following David Moyes’ sacking at Manchester United, it seems that the Red Devils are closing in on signing summer targets Edison Cavani and Barcelona’s midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
Having let go of David Moyes earlier in the week, in a rather unceremonious manner by the board officials, reports suggest that Manchester United are now closing in on signing PSG’s Edison Cavani and Cesc Fabregas.
Edison Cavani had been on Manchester United’s radar for quite a long time and it seems that the Red Devils are very close to getting the striker to sign on the dotted line this transfer window. The Uruguayan international had earlier expressed his concern with David Moyes, with sources close to the striker claiming that he was not confident of the direction the club was taking under the Chosen One. However with David Moyes out of Old Trafford, it seems that United have been able to push their case with Cavani and are inching closer to signing the striker.
Though David Moyes has been pinned down and executed for United’s dismal performance this season, it is clear without a doubt that the present squad is incapable of fighting with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City and hence the club is ready to ‘splash’ money this summer with the hope of rebuilding an ageing squad. David Moyes himself was promised a significant ‘war-chest’ and even though he is out of Old Trafford, it is reported that United will still spend big this summer in order to ensure that the squad is ready for the upcoming season.
Reports also suggest that Ed Woodward, Executive Chairman at Manchester United, is confident of signing Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas having failed in his previous attempts last summer. Though Fabregas ruled out a move to United early last season, things have taken a drastic turn for him at Barcelona. Following a highly disappointed season and with the transfer ban lifted off the Spanish champions, it is believed that Barcelona will be investing heavily this summer and Fabregas’ position at Camp Nou is under threat. Not a regular starter under Tata Martino, Fabregas has suffered in his relationship with the fans as well, and hence might be looking for a way out of Spain come summer. Manchester United are keeping an eye out for the Spanish midfielder and reports confirm that Manchester United are very confident of signing him in the hopes of rebuilding their squad.
There are two factors that will swing the decision in United’s favour with regards to signing him in the upcoming transfer window-the fact that they can promise him a starting position and that they can offer him a highly lucrative contract.
However, with Manchester United out of Champions League, it remains to be seen if they can still attract talents like Cavani and Fabregas, who are also being monitored by the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea. A lot will depend on the manager Manchester United appoints following Ryan Giggs’ spell till the end of this season and hence if United are to rebuild a quality squad, they will have to start right from the top-the manager.
