According to reports, Liverpool and Manchester United are due to fight each other in the next transfer window for Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri after the youngster failed to earn himself a starting position with the Bavarians.

The Swiss international has failed to earn a starting position under Pep Guardiola due to the presence of other great midfielders and is reportedly looking for a move away from Munich to gain more playing time. He has started only 8 league games this season which has been marred due to his injuries.

Speaking with the press, Shaqiri’s brother said that Xherdan was not getting enough time with the Champions League winners and will probably move away in order to develop himself as a player.

“Xherdan is 22. At this age, he needs to be playing regularly, which is not currently the case.”

According to the player’s brother, a decision will be reached at this summer and the player is open to a move to Manchester United or Liverpool in the English Premier League.

“We are waiting now until summer. Then, when clubs make approaches such as Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan and other top clubs, we can listen to their offers.”

However Bayern Munich definitely figures in his future plans and the 22 year old midfielder could be convinced to hang on with the Bavarian giants if he is promised of a more prominent role next season.

“That said, Bayern still remains our first point of contact before we talk to other clubs.”

The player was earlier quoted as being flattered with reports linking him to Liverpool and had categorically said that if a big club came calling, he will pay attention to the transfer offer.

“When you hear these names, of course you have to listen to the offer, but there is nothing concrete. I cannot say anything to this. I am feeling good in Munich but as a player you have to listen, if one of these top clubs is interested.”

The player is reportedly keeping his options open and has not ruled out a move to the English and the Italian league.

“Bundesliga is the best league for me, but I also like the Premier League and Serie A. In Serie A many teams have developed well with nice players.”

Xherdan is one of the most promising youngsters at Bayern Munich and has a contract that runs till June 2016. However the player is well aware of the competition he faces in Munich and Liverpool and Manchester United might consider a move to lure the player to England this summer.

Liverpool and Manchester United will both greatly benefit from the winger’s presence in their squad. He is fast-paced and will integrate well into Rodgers’ scheme of things at Anfield. Manchester United are lacking a powerful winger ever since Ronaldo left. Nani, Valencia and Young have failed to make an impact at the Old Trafford and David Moyes might make a bid for the Swiss international along with his bid for Tony Kroos this summer. As Liverpool and Manchester United lock horns over the midfielder this summer, it will be interesting to see which colours the winger finally dons come transfer window.
