Manchester United and Chelsea target Edison Cavani has hinted that he will leave PSG at the end of this season.
Talking before PSG’s quarter-final clash against Chelsea, Cavani made it clear that he was not very happy with his stint in Paris and could be looking for a move out in the summer.
“I’m in Paris, but there are definitely things we need to talk about with the club, things should be done differently.”
Though he reiterated his dedication for PSG and made it clear that he is looking to end the season on a high, he also hinted that he might look to move to the English Premier League this summer and that his brother will play a central role in such negotiations.
“We’ll see after the season. We must finish the season first.”
“If something happens, it’s my brother who will do it and be at the table with the interested parties.”
Edison Cavani has long been linked with a move to England and reports suggest that both Manchester United and Chelsea are targeting the Uruguayan international who earned his stripes while playing for Napoli last season. His high-profile move to PSG has not brought him much satisfaction as he continues to live in Zlatan Ibrahamovic’s shadow in Paris. The striker was reportedly unhappy at being deployed on the wings and is looking for an opportunity to play as a central striker.
Though it remains to be seen how David Moyes plans to use the likes of Cavani, Rooney and Robin Van Persie in his side, it is no secet that Chelsea are in a desperate need of a striker and are ready to splash money for the cause.
Speaking earlier, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho made it quite clear that he will be bringing in a striker this summer to help the London club compete for silverware next season.
“I don’t think it’s the moment to speak about next season and the market but it’s clear to everybody that Chelsea next year wants to bring in a striker.”
“What’s the future for the other strikers? The ones who are staying are competing with the striker we are bringing [in].”
Edison Cavani also spoke about Chelsea’s earlier interest in him but believes that they weren’t willing to ‘spend’ money and hence lost out to PSG.
“Chelsea were interested. But the only thing that matters during the transfer window is to spend money, just like Palermo did in 2009, Napoli 2011, and PSG in the summer.”
This statement clearly indicates that Edison Cavani will be willing to join the Blues if Mourinho decides to ‘splash’ money on the Uruguayan striker. Manchester United too are reportedly on a big budget this summer as David Moyes attempts to over-haul his faltering side. Though reports suggest that he is interested in Cavani, it remains to be seen if United will pursue the striker knowing fully well that its their midfield and defence that is in most need of repairs. The striker had earlier been reported as not having enough confidence in David Moyes and hence a move to Manchester United is one that is unlikely to materialize.
It now remains to be seen what the future holds for the Uruguayan internantional. Will he stay put in Paris and continue to play second-fiddle to Zlatan or will he switch to the English Premier League, one that he confessed he enjoys watching a lot.
