Chelsea are linked with £15m CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia. Meanwhile, Arsenal and Liverpool have also been linked to the 26 year old striker. CSKA Moscow have however entered contract negotiations with Doumbia’s agent to shun off increasing interest from these Premier League clubs.
Doumbia’s representative Jean Bernard Beytrison said: ‘We are currently in negotiations over a new contract. There is plenty of interest in Seydou from England plus clubs in Spain, Germany and Italy.
‘He is a goalscorer and there aren’t many of them around. However, he is contracted to CSKA and clubs will have to pay their fee.’
Although Doumbia’s contract ends in 2016, the Ivory Coast international would be hoping to switch clubs and ply his trade elsewhere. Meanwhile, CSKA are willing to listen to offers of around £15m but could hold out Doumbia, and press the buyers to pay his buy-out fee which is believed to be around the region of £25m.
Doumbia recently surfaced and took Premier League champions, Manchester City, by storm as his goals in the Champions League have put City’s chances of qualifying in jeopardy.
After a prolific spell with BSC Young Boys wherein he scored a staggering 50 goals in 64 appearances, Doumbia moved to CSKA Moscow in 2010.
Scoring 60 goals in 92 appearances for CSKA, is perhaps one of the prime reasons that these Premier League clubs are associated and linked with the Ivory Coast striker.
With Didier Drogba likely to retire at the end of this season and Loic Remy, being not so prolific, Chelsea could turn to Seydou Doumbia to share goal scoring charts with another exciting talent, Diego Costa. Although the league leaders are not in a hurry to but Doumbia, and could wait assess and then splash money to acquire his services, Doumbia would arguably suit Chelsea best.
The 26 year old has a strong imposing presence and can easily knock down ariel ball, while holding up play. Chelsea could turn to Doumbia, as Jose Mourinho has a penchant for strong physical players upfront.
Meanwhile, Arsenal and Liverpool who reel with injury worries and form worries could target Doumbia as one of their primary men to re-energise their ailing squad.
Arsenal have missed a prolific goal scorer and Doumbia could put an end to all those goal scoring worries. Arsenal who have lacked quality infront of goal could tun to Doumbia as a potion to resolve all worries.
Liverpool however struggle in the second half of the table and with Mario Balotelli not clicking, Liverpool could replace the misfiring Italian with Doumbia.
Although, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are all in the race for Seydou Doumbia’s signature, Arsenal could look like the a possible destination for the 26 year old as they could make some panic buys come January. But with Chelsea and Liverpool prying on Doumbia, the deal could switch and tun either way.
