On the brink of finally breaking a 9 year barren spell at Arsenal, reports confirm that Arsene Wenger has decided to stay put at the North London club and will be given a hefty transfer budget to push his case this summer.
Having completed 1000 games in charge of Arsenal earlier this year, reports now suggest that Arsene Wenger has decided to sign a contract extension with Arsenal after months of delay prompting suggestions that he will leave the Emirates. The French manager was extremely disappointed in the manner in which the season unfurled for the Gunners, who lost the grip on the title race following a string of injuries, and was reportedly considering his future away from Arsenal. Some section of the fans were calling for his head following a 9 year barren spell at Arsenal but the board had given the manager the final decision regarding his future with Arsenal.
And now reports confirm that the French ‘Professor’ has indeed agreed to sign an extension with the Gunners and has assured the Board that he will stay and will sign the contract following the FA Cup final later this season. In fact, it is being reported that he has already drawn the transfer plans for the upcoming transfer window and is planning on bringing in fresh recruits to lead the title charge next season.
One of the main reasons behind Arsenal’s sharp decline in the second half of the season was due to the key injuries they suffered. Almost all the big names were out for considerable parts of the season which led to the Gunners slipping behind the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea. The club is now back to struggling for a Top-four finish, something that the club has become accustomed to over the years.
However the Arsenal board has reportedly promised the manager a £70million transfer budget this season in order to ensure he has the depth in the squad to battle for the trophies next season. It was quite clear that Arsenal suffered due to the lack of quality replacements in the squad and are now willing to rectify their mistake by bringing in fresh talents this summer.
According to reports, Arsene Wenger will be looking to sign a new goal-keeper and the club is apparently keeping an eye on Iker Casillas who could be on his way out this summer if Carlo Ancelotti continues to favour Diego Lopez over him at Real Madrid. The manager will also be looking to replace Sagna and are in need of a quality striker to improve their chances in front of the goal. Bayern Munich’s Mandzukic and PSG’s Edison Cavani are being reportedly targeted by Arsenal and Real Sociedad’s Antoine Griezmann could also be on his way to the Emirates this summer.
On the verge of extending Arsene Wenger’s contract and bring new players to the Emirates, will Arsenal finally be able to shake off the shackles and pave the way for a brighter future? We shall soon find out.
