Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury was not the only bad news for Real Madrid on Wednesday night as they could only draw 1-1 at Valladolid, a result that has severely dented hopes of Los Blancos winning La Liga.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men are now four points behind leaders Atletico Madrid with two games remaining. The start of the game was disastrous for Madrid as Cristiano Ronaldo was forced off injured with just nine minutes gone.
Madrid took the lead on 35 minutes when Sergio Ramos scored a wonder goal from a 25-yard free-kick. And they looked certain to win maximum three points but Valladolid were constantly creating close chances, and scored their equaliser through an Osorio header on 85 minutes.
Meanwhile, for Madrid, Iker Casillas started in goal for the first time in a Liga match this season and Nacho was also a surprise starter for the Blancos. Bale too, missed out with injury and Isco started the game in his place.
With both Ronaldo and Bale missing, Real struggled to form an attack but still managed to find the opener from the suddenly Ramos. Real took the one-goal advantage into the second half but still continued to lack the creativity and failed to test Valledolid defense. On the other hand, Valledolid kept pressing for the goal and ultimately got their reward in the 85th minute. Substitute Osorio’s well-hit header on a corner kick which beat Casillas and the outcome of the game was decided.
Ronaldo Injury is Not Serious: Ancelotti
Cristiano Ronaldo suffered a suspected thigh injury at the Valledolid but Madrid boss Ancelotti has dismissed concerns the forward could miss the Champions League final and said that it is ‘not serious’.
“We’ll see in the next few days how Cristiano is, but it’s not a serious problem,” Carlo Ancelotti told reporters after the game.
“He was not comfortable, though, so I changed him.
“Cristiano is tired, but he’s going to play (in Champions League Final). Bale is out with a knock and the same goes for Carvajal”.
“I don’t think Pepe or [Angel] Di Maria [who also picked up knocks] have serious problems either. But we’ll see.”
Ronaldo felt some discomfort after a sprint and asked to come off as a precaution with one eye on the Champions League final in Lisbon on 24th May.
And Ancelotti is hoping that Barcelona will play their hearts out aginst Atletico in the last game of the season. “Barça will play all out against Atlético. In all competitions, the final games are played at the same time, so I think that will be the case here as well.” He said.
