Angel Di Maria is poised to join Manchester United from Real Madrid in a deal worth 70 million euros.
Real Madrid want to sale Angel Di Maria in order to balance their books. Paris Saint Germain were the early frontrunners for the signature of Argentina international but they baulked at the asking price of Real Madrid and Manchester United are ready to offer 70 million euros to Los Blancos to get their man.
Reports coming from Spain and Engalnd have confirmed the departure of Di Maria from Real Madrid. British broadcaster Sky Sports’ report claims that: “Manchester United are close to signing Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria for a British-record transfer fee, according to Sky sources. The Argentine winger is expected to hold talks with United next week over a transfer that is though to be worth up to £56million.”
Real Madrid have splashed more than 130 euros on new signings like James Rodriguez, Toni Kroos and Kaylor Navas and Angel Di Maria is not required at the club anymore.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has also suggested that Di Maria is not needed anymore. Speaking after Supercopa De Espana game against Atletico Madrid on Friday, Ancelotti said that: “It was a technical decision that we did not need Di Maria.”
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is under pressure to splash the cash after their heartbreaking lost against Swansea City on the opening day of Premier League and strengthening the midfield is the first priority of the Dutchman.
Angel Di Maria was the key member of Real Madrid’s Champions League winning team last season but the arrival of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez mean that he will struggle to get enough playing time in the coming season. Real boss Ancelotti has preferred to use the trio of Modric, Kroos and Xabi Alonso in the midfield in pre-season and Di Maria has expressed his frustration for lack of playing time on many occasions during the past one month.
French champions Paris Saint Germain were touted as the future destination of Di Maria but they pulled out of the race because of the Financial Fair Play restrictions of UEFA and nevertheless, the Argentine was more interested in a move to Manchester United. And now, it appears that he will be United player in next week.
Sky Sports reporter Guillem Ballague has also confirmed that the deal will be concluded in the early days of next week. Football agent Jorge Mendes is on a flight from Singapore – where he has been putting to bed the purchase of Valencia by Peter Lim – to Europe, with a view to sealing the sale of Di Maria to United. So advanced, in fact, are the negotiations that it has already been agreed that Di Maria will wear the number seven shirt.
