It appears that Real Madrid’s hopes of signing Brazilian wonder kid Lucas Silva have received a big setback as director Alexandre Mattos has accused Los Blancos of showing “lack of respect” for Cruzeiro.

Real Madrid are hot in pursuit of Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva since past few weeks and Alexandre Mattos revealed that the Los Blancos have made two offers for the midfielder but none of it was close to the clubs’ valuation of 15 million euros.

Real Madrid were interested in signing Lucas Silva in the winter transfer window as midfielder Luka Modric is out with long term injury. The management of Real Madrid believed that they could get their man for around 10-12 million euros. But the recent comments of the Cruzeiro director have all but confirmed that Lucas Silva will not move to Real Madrid in January.

Speaking to Radio Itatiaia about the potential transfer of Lucas Silva to Real Madrid, Cruzeiro director Mattos said that: “I called the president [Gilvan Tavares] when they again bid less than €15m and he told me that the club won’t accept any less than that. Real Madrid are not going to sign Lucas Silva until they show Cruzeiro some respect. I thanked them for their interest, but they see themselves as the best in the world, whereas for me that’s Cruzeiro.”

The Cruzeiro director also confirmed that he has spoken to Real Madrid on numerous occasions about the potential transfer of Lucas Silva but nothing concrete has happened yet. Mattos also revealed that Real Madrid are now looking to sign Lucas Silva in June, not in January.

“We had four meetings to discuss Lucas Silva. I spoke to Real Madrid ten-odd times. No agreement was reached. I spoke to José Ángel Sánchez [Real Madrid’s CEO] and he was interested in a deal for June. If Florentino Pérez, whom I have nothing but respect for, is in no hurry to sign our player in the winter window, you won’t see us trying to get rid of him.”

The interest of Real Madrid in Lucas Silva became concrete when Luka Modric got injured but president Florentino Perez believes that the likes of Asier Illaramendi and Sami Khedira have performed well in absence of the Croatian and no immediate replacement is necessary. However, Real Madrid are certain to sign Lucas Silva in the summer transfer window.
