Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid
Real Madrid players will be extra motivated for their home game against Celta Vigo today as they are just one win away from equaling the record of all-time longest winning streak by a La Liga team (FC Barcelona, 18) in history.
Real Madrid is the most in-form team in world at the moment and coach Carlo Ancelotti will be expecting a straight-forward victory over Celta Vigo, who are struggling for form since past one month, at Santiago Bernabeu today.
Meanwhile, Celta Vigo have lost their previous three games in La Liga and now, the task ahead of Eduardo Berizzo’s men is extremely difficult as they visit the Spanish capital to face mighty Real Madrid at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Team news and tactics
Real Madrid sit at the top of La Liga table, two points clear of FC Barcelona, and they will try to extend their lead by winning against Celta Vigo today. It has been almost 3 months since Real Madrid last lost a home game and another straight forward win is expected when they host Celta Vigo at Santiago Bernabeu tonight.
Real Madrid are in excellent run of form at the moment and the good news just keeps coming for them. Young winger Jese Rodriguez is back from his injury lay-off now while the club has also announced the capture of promising youngster Marco Asensio from Mallorca on the eve of this game against Celta Vigo.
Star striker Cristiano Ronaldo is also in form of his life at the moment and the Portuguese star – nominated for the Ballon d’Or award this week – has 20 goals in 12 liga matches so far. On the contrary, Celta Vigo has managed to score only 17 goals during their campaign so far.
For the game against Celta Vigo, Real Madrid will be without Isco, who was sent off in their last La Liga game against Malaga. Asier Illaramendi has impressed coach Carlo Ancelotti with his promising displays this season and the Basque player will take the place of Isco for this encounter. Carlo Ancelotti rested the likes of Dani Carvajal, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo for their mid-week Copa del Rey encounter but he is expected to pick them all for this crucial La Liga game against Celta Vigo.
Celta Vigo has performed extremely well against the bigger teams this season and speaking in a press conference ahead of today’s clash, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was full of praise for Eduardo Berizzo’s men.
Carlo Ancelotti said: “Celta Vigo play differently to last year. The results say that they won at the Camp Nou and drew away to Atlético. They’re a very aggressive side who work hard on the pitch. They’ll bring a high level of intensity to the play and it won’t be an easy game. We need to play as we have in recent games. There is a lot of excitement among the fans and we’re aware of it at the stadium, in the street and in matches. Tomorrow will be the same as always. The Santiago Bernabéu is going to help us.”
The Real Madrid coach also confirmed that Asier Illaramendi will start the game today. “Isco is out because we didn’t appeal. Illarra will replace Isco and the rest will be the same. We have to understand that a referee can make a mistake. He is in good form, but his absence won’t affect tomorrow because I have a lot of confidence in Illarra.”
Possible Starting Lineup (4-3-3): Casillas; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Kroos, Illara, Rodriguez; Bale, Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo
Celta Vigo are at 8th position in La Liga points table as they have 20 points to their name so far. Coach Eduardo Berizzo’s men have performed well against the stronger opponents in away games this season as they have gone unbeaten against Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Athletic Bilbao so far.
However, the game against Real Madrid is altogether a different ball game as the Los Blancos have lost just 3 of their last 83 home games. And on the other hand, Celta Vigo are currently on a 4-match winless run (3 losses, 1 draw). Celta Vigo made an excellent start to their campaign under new coach Eduardo Berizzo but it now appears that they have lost their ground in past one month as they remain winless during this period.
Celta Vigo have scored only one goal in their past four matches and coach Eduardo Berizzo will be hoping for a more productive outing from the likes of Larrivey and Nolito against Real Madrid today.
Meanwhile, in spite of their recent struggles, Celta Vigo coach Eduardo Berizzo sound full of confidence in his press conference before the game against Real Madrid.
Berizzo said: “We are going to confront Real Madrid the best of recent years. They are Champion of Champions, pointer in the League, with fantastic players within your template, with installed and accepted operation. There is no better stage to achieve a victory. The framework of the party we have to stimulate to go in search of a victory, to be consistent with what we do and betting on what we do well. We have to counteract the great offensive flow that has Real Madrid, applying us with a great defensive tactical sense. With the ball, we have to be a team that respects their identity and that puts it to the test against the best team in the world at home.”
Possible Starting Lineup (4-3-3): Alvarez; Cabral, Mallo, Fontas, Castro; Krohn-Dehli, Orellana, Lopez; Radoja, Larrivey, Nolito
Player To Watch Out For
Cristiano Ronaldo is in excellent run of form at the moment as he has bagged in 20 goals for Real Madrid in La Liga this season so far. And the Portuguese star will be eager to score against Celta Vigo today to make a strong case for FIFA Ballon d’Or.
Real Madrid 4-0 Celta Vigo
The rampant Real Madrid are dominating literally all of their games this season and a clash against Celta Vigo will be no different as coach Eduardo Berizzo does not have enough quality to stop the star studded attack of Los Blancos.
