Real Madrid skipper Iker Casillas is upset with the boo boys of Santiago Bernabeu and has urged the fans to support the team.
Real Madrid fans are seemingly unhappy with the performance levels of Iker Casillas this season and they have booed their captain regularly at teams’ home games but there was a much better response in Sunday’s win over Athletic Bilbao.
“It’s important for people to be with the team,” Casillas said. He was speaking to Spanish daily AS. “The players have more confidence when they feel wanted. And the players respond to the fans’ appreciation.”
Casillas has been playing for Real Madrid since past 15 years and he thinks that maybe this is the reason he is being booed by the Santiago Bernabeu faithful. “I can understand that people are tired of my face because I’ve been here for 15 years. But this is my own doing.
“I’ve taken a small place in the history of Madrid.”
Meanwhile, Casillas also gave his take on Real Madrid’s win over Athletic Bilbao, claiming that not conceding was as important as the five goals scored.
“The clean sheet is important because we’ve been on a run of conceding goals and I feel like we’ve got the support of the people,” Casillas said.
“This is what everyone wants. Athletic didn’t stop and the result could have been different. We’ve still not cut points on the leaders though. We try to stay detached and not pay attention to Atletico, the champions.”
Meanwhile, Real Madrid new signing James Rodriguez also said that he is happy with the improving performance levels of the team. “It was a very good game. When we defended we did it well, better. In attack we have great players that create danger,” he said in a press conference today.
“Everyone was good and we concentrated and got five goals.”
James Rodriguez also said that he very happy with his move to Real Madrid and said that he wants to carry on the legacy of Angel di Maria. “He’s a great player and he did a lot here, he made history and there is a lot of respect for him,” James Rodriguez said.
“Di Maria is much loved and I just got here. I want to make history here too. I have to run but I’m used to it. That’s what the Coach wants and I’m happy to do it because I’m happy here.”
