Real Madrid and Paris St. Germain are set to fight it out for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Real Madrid are preparing a £20 million move for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in the January transfer window, according to reports.
Los Blancos are apparently looking for a replacement for Iker Casillas, who is now 33. The Spanish giants want Lloris to make their squad even more threatening and he would arrive to replace the Real Madrid legend, who has had an inconsistent campaign.
Madrid want a long-term replacement for their first-choice shotstopper, and have viewed Lloris as the ideal man to do that for them.
Lloris signed a new five year deal this summer but Spurs know that the France captain can easily be prized away from the club, especially if a party like Real Madrid are vying for his signature. Mauricio Pochettino would know that the player would be tempted by Champions League football, which solely on current run of results, is a tough ask for the Lilywhites.
It has been reported that the Spanish giants are prepared to wait until next summer if a deal cannot be done in January, while French giants Paris St Germain are also interested. PSG will also make an attempt to lure Petr Cech in the summer again.
Tottenham have Michel Vorm and Brad Friedel as back-up goalkeepers. They will be fighting tooth and nail to keep their world-class goalkeeper, but it could be a very difficult task for them. But Pochettino would definitely be adamant about keeping the player. He said in the summer, “He is one of the top goalies and unless someone is going to spend £100million on him – and keepers do not get bought for that money – I don’t think he will leave.”
It would be interesting to see how much Real would be ready to stretch their bid for Lloris, and whether they value his addition that much.
