Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke in the press room in the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on the eve of the start of the Club World Cup and said that winning the trophy would be a fitting end to a brilliant year.

Real Madrid are hot favorites to win the Club World Club in Morocco and coach Carlo Ancelotti did not hide his ambition to win yet another trophy to mark the end of what can termed as a historic year for the Los Blancos.

Real Madrid will play against Mexican side Cruz Azul in their first game and Ancelotti addressed the media on the eve of this encounter. Ancelotti said: “The year is not over. We still have this competition, which is important. We are heading into it with a lot of excitement because we have done great work to get here. All the teams are champions and winning would mean putting an end to an unforgettable year.”

“It is a great competition and we are motivated to win the title”, added the coach.

Some sections of media have raised doubts over the importance of Club World Cup for a giant team like Real Madrid but Carlo Ancelotti downplayed these talks by undermining the relevance of this competition for the club.

Ancelotti said: “The champions of the world are here, and all the teams deserve to be playing this competition. It is a great contest and we are excited about it. The problem is getting here. A lot of the teams will be watching the tournament on TV.”

Real Madrid are now four points ahead o FC Barcelona in La Liga and Ancelotti said that he is happy with the current position of the team. “We are having a good spell in La Liga. We don’t look at how other teams are doing, instead we want to continue our own run of form. We have had this competition in mind for a long time and are highly motivated for it.”

Meanwhile, Real Madrid defender Pepe has said that Club World Cup is “as important as the Champions League”. Speaking on the team’s arrival in Morocco, Pepe said: “It’s as important as the Champions League. The winner is the best club in the world. We’re here because we won the Champions League. We want the Club World Cup to give some happiness to our fans and finish the year well.”
