PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has insisted that the French club won’t sell Edinson Cavani, despite rumours linking him with Chelsea FC and Real Madrid.

Edinson Cavani’s future at PSG has come under a lot of speculations recently, despite only joining at the start of this summer. The Uruguayan international, who has already scored 14 goals in the leagues this season, recently hinted at a possible exit from the French club next season. Cavani is believed to be unhappy at being played out-wide with Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the line. The 27-year-old insisted that his brother will deal with negotiations with interested parties in the summer, ahead of the first leg of their clash against Chelsea in the Champions League.

“I’m in Paris, but there are definitely things we need to talk about with the club, things should be done differently.

“We’ll see after the season. We must finish the season first.

“If something happens, it’s my brother who will do it and be at the table with the interested parties.” – Cavani said back then.

Incidentally Chelsea were linked with a move for Cavani in the summer, along with Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho has publicly expressed his discontent at the lack of options upfront and signing a new striker will be their priority in the summer. But PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has dismissed all these rumours stating that Cavani is an important member of the squad and won’t be sold. He also insisted that where he plays on the pitch is for Laurent Blanc to decide.

“Cavani is very important for us, he is very professional and he gives everything. I appreciate that.

“If he wants to change positions, it is not his decision, it is the coach and he understands that.

“He is there to play where the coach decides. He may discuss with the staff and the club but the decision will be remaining with us.

“He is a star for the club and of course it remains.” – Al-Khelaifi said.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has refuted claims that the Spanish club will try and sign Cavani in the summer by stating that Real Madrid don’t need a player like him currently.

“Cavani is a great player, but we already have Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale: this squad does not need to have a player like him.” – Ancelotti said.
