Manuel Pellegrini has expressed his desire to hold on to former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, even after his short loan spell. Frank Lampard has been sensational for Manchester City so far, and has scored five goals for Manchester City already. The veteran midfielder who is on loan from New York City, could be retained, as a decision for his services is to be made soon. Manuel Pellegrini has already been a fan of his impact substitute appearances and would be looking to hold on to Lampard.
“No one can be surprised to see the way Frank Lampard plays his football,Maybe, at 36, he’s not able to play three games in a week, not 90 minutes every game, but he played against Bayern on Tuesday and did well and he always makes a difference because he’s a top player. He’s a great professional and person and very happy here in our team. He also enjoys the way we play and always makes a difference in the last 25 or 30 minutes. We’re very happy.” said Pellegrini.
Meanwhile the robust midfielder was all happy with City’s win away to Southampton and also commented on New York City’s decision – if they let him stay.
“I haven’t spoke to them on that front at all, I’ve been concentrating week to week and getting fit when I was injured for a while.” said Lampard
“I’m not looking that far ahead. It’s nice that they are saying that, it’s much better saying that than saying they can’t wait for me to go! We’ll see what happens about that one.”
Lampard was one of the goal scorers in the fixture against Southampton and has been impactful as a substitute for Manchester City. He also displayed signs of sheer quality in City’s Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich.
“I thought it was very good, we knew what we were coming up against today, a very good team in very good form, and I think you could see from the outset today that our attitude was absolutely bang on. The spirit was really there today and that’s what won us the game.”
“You’re aggrieved for a few minutes and then I think you have to look forward to the rest of the game. We said that at half-time and the lads went out and did it.”
Meanwhile, former Liverpool legend and now pundit Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester City must hold on and retain the services of Frank Lampard.
“There is no one better who we have seen over the last 10-20 years in terms of that position of coming on to a ball. I think he is only one Premier League goal now behind Thierry Henry – that is an unbelievable stat for a central midfield player.”
“City have to keep him,” said Carra.
