Liverpool‘s Luis Suarez is poised to be part of another summer transfer saga as reports of Barcelona and Real Madrid both being interested in the player are doing rounds.

Liverpool would be used to the interest around their talismanic player, and a lot of newspapers- both in England and Spain- are now claiming that a heavy bidding war will begin for the 27 year old and the Merseyside team will imminently lose the player in the summer.

Metro have printed the report claiming Suarez has ‘told close friends that he wants to quit Anfield and complete a switch to Barca during the transfer window’.

However, Liverpool Echo- local Liverpool newspaper- has reported that claims suggesting Suarez wants to quit the Anfield club for any other team are wide off mark. Liverpool are confident of the 27 year old’s stay following a season where the Reds came agonizingly close to the title and made their return to Champions League after 5 years.

Echo confirms there have been no bids for Suarez, from either of the Spanish giants so far.

Suarez spoke during the latter part of the season that the club would make another title challenge next season, if they failed to win the league in the present one. He has been happy with the 18 time League champions and enjoyed a terrific season both individually and with the team. He won numerous accolades which included the PFA Player of the Year and shared the European Golden Shoe with Cristiano Ronaldo.

He also held talks with manager Brendan Rodgers and during the closing stages of the campaign and reiterated his commitment to the club. Neither Suarez, nor his representatives have given Liverpool any indication that the player wants to leave the club. The Reds feel they have done everything in their capacity to satisfy the player. Liverpool are not delusional and they do understand that a player like Suarez, who is the peak of his career, will attract attention and heavy bids. But the club remains confident that their prized asset will stay with them next season, when they look to make a planned title challenge as well as have a good outing in the Champions League.

There were some reports claiming that Barcelona are looking to land the player for a cheaper price by offering Alexis Sanchez as part of the deal, a player the Reds are interested in (Liverpool are reportedly in advanced talks for his signature). But it is understood that these reports are also off mark and Liverpool will not consider such an offer.

Brendan Rodgers was in fact, asked if the club was scared that there would be heavy bids from Spain and other European clubs and the club would lose their asset. Rodgers reassured that Suarez was happy at Liverpool in his reply. He said, “I know Luis is very happy here.He has turned a corner in terms of how he’s perceived in England. Of course in football you can’t promise anything but I am confident Luis will be a big part of the future here. The Champions League was what we were all fighting for. It’s a wonderful platform for all the players and that opportunity is there now.”
