After Weeks of Buildup and Anticipation, the Inaugural Season of the Indian Super League, finally kicks off, with Atletico de Kolkata facing the daunting Mumbai City FC.

Although Nicolas Anelka, Mumbai’s star player was not expected to play his part for the first three ISL matches, it has been made official, that his 3 match ban in the English Premier League, would not be valid in the Indian Super League.

With this, Anelka is expected to lead the Mumbai Contingent, in their first match away from home.

However, the grass is always not green on the other side, as Arsenal Legend Freddie Ljungberg is expected to miss the opening game, due to a Calf Injury in practice.

With melodrama coming to the subcontinent, Coach Peter Reid made his aim clear, he said “This is the start of the competition and so it is a massive game. It is a big opportunity to play here and hopefully we will come up with the right result.”

Reid, also announced the Syed Nabi would be leading the team.

“From the couple of weeks I have worked with the team, I have found him a natural leader, good communicator and a bubbly character within the dressing room. I think Nabi has great experience and knowledge of the game. Manuel Friedrich would be the vice-captain,” he added.

Syed Nabi, also made his aim to capture three points, and build a solid start to the Super League, clear, commenting “This is the first game and hence will be massive for all of us. We expect a good support for our team and we should get a positive result,”

With Mumbai Without their marquee player, ,perhaps this will be a test of credentials, for both the franchisees. A tight game, is expected with a draw, a more likely outcome, regardless.
