Chelsea FC’s manager Jose Mourinho believes that his captain, John Terry, would earn himself a new contract if he continues with his outstanding form. Terry, who suffered a torrid time before the arrival of Mourinho, under Andres Villas Boas and Rafa Benitez, has been re-ignited in his quest of thwarting opposing forwards. The Chelsea FC captain, has been as solid as a wall, recently, and has seldom been complacent. Terry’s heading prowess, is another ability which reaps profit for Chelsea FC. The imposing defender, often towers his opposing players and head home, easily. His 60 career goals, most by any defender, are evidence of his attacking qualities, as well. On the contrary, his importance in the Chelsea FC is unparalleled. Defensively, Terry is a lionheart. His ability to sense danger and steer clear of it, has often been Chelsea FC’s saving grace. Continuing with his solid form, Terry scored a sublime goal against Chelsea FC’s 2-0 win over West Ham, when Diego Costa flicked the ball on to Terry’s boot, following a corner. Mourinho, all praise for the Englishman and compared him to a younger, more agile version of himself, way back in 2004-05. Mourinho, also expressed his thoughts over the Terry’s contract extension, given his contract runs out next summer.
“There are no doubts that he is going to get another contract,” said Mourinho. “I know that, he knows that. It’s a formality.”
“He’s a very important player in the team so the next contract sooner or later will come,” said Mourinho. “We in the club, in the board, we know that and I think also you have to feel that. Without us confirming anything you have to feel that. He’s a happy guy, he’s playing well, he likes his team-mates, likes the manager, he works well. It’s a very happy group and I think John feels very, very well.
“He’s full of confidence. I see my John of 2004, 2005, 2006. I see him back. The only difference is when I see his twins at the training ground. They were born in that period, but now they are there running around and kicking balls. In him, there is no difference.”
Simmilarily, like Terry’s shining form, Chelsea FC will hope that their glowing form continues when they clash swords against Southampton. Although, the team would be fresh and there are no injury concerns, Southampton could prove a tough test for the London based club. With Manchester City in hot pursuit of Chelsea FC, Jose Mourinho will hope that his players, deliver a top draw performance and earn all three points.
