Manchester United have received a huge boost ahead of the summer transfer window after Mario Gotze revealed that Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus has always been keen on moving to Manchester.
Marco Reus has been one of Europe’s best attacking midfielder in recent years and reports now suggest that he is keen to follow in Shinji Kagawa’s footsteps and join the Red Devils this summer. This will give David Moyes a huge boost who has a massive job in his hands in the coming transfer window.
Speaking to the Press, Mario Gotze, Reus’ former team-mate at Borussia Dortmund revealed that Reus was always keen to join Manchester United and the feeling remains strong as ever.
“When I was at Borussia, Marco wanted a move to Manchester United. This hasn’t changed.”
Marco Reus, Mario Gotze and Lewandowski were part of the lethal threesome that took Europe by a storm and almost won the Champions League last season. However Gotze moved to Bayern Munich last summer and Lewandowski will be joining them this summer leaving Marco Reus alone in the once star-studded Borussia Dortmund squad. Though Jurgen Klopp will undoubtedly find another unpolished stone and turn him into a gem, it seems that Marco Reus is ready to make a switch to Manchester United if the English side makes an appropriate bid for him this summer.
In his second season at Borussia Dortmund, Marco Reus has emerged into one of Europe’s hottest talents. He has particularly shined this season, taking Dortmund very close to a magical come-back against Real Madrid by scoring a first half brace and then tearing Bayern Munich apart in the German Bundesliga. He has repeatedly stepped up when others went missing and has been Klopp’s go-to-man in a season that saw Borussia Dortmund left crippled due to injuries.
Reus’s prolific performances in the left flank will be a mouth-watering proposition for David Moyes who has suffered due to the lack of quality wingers in the squad. Both Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have failed miserably and it seems David Moyes will be keen to bring in a good midfielder as he looks to give Janujaz and Kagawa increased prominence in the upcoming season. A Marco Reus, Juan Mata, Janujaz and Wayne Rooney combination can prove to be very fruitful for United who will be looking to fight their way back to the top of the Premier League in the coming season.
Though Marco Reus has pledged his loyalty to Borussia Dortmund, his contract with the German club lasts only till 2017. And with reports suggesting that manager Jurgen Klopp himself might be on his way to Manchester United or Barcelona next season, the young winger could very well make a move to Manchester United this summer. The English side has the money power to meet his price-tag and reports earlier had revealed that he has a release clause which could be activated should Reus want to go ahead with such a move. A swap deal with Shinji Kagawa could also propel this move and hence there is a good chance of this deal going through if Reus is genuinely interested in playing for the Red Devils.
