Manchester United will miss both Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie in their crucial trip to face Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Wayne Rooney - A lethal partnership with van Persie could undo Liverpool

Manchester United are currently 7th in the league table and according to most they are already out of the title race and will have to improve a lot in order to grab a top four spot given the competition this season. Most of their problems have been due to their poor home form this season, where they have won only five of their 11 matches so far. But it must also be considered that David Moyes and Manchester United have had to deal with a lot of injuries so far this season as well, specially to some of the most key players in the side.

United’s talisman Wayne Rooney has missed every game since their 1-2 defeat at the hands of Totteham Hotspur with a groin problem and recently he was sent on a hot weather break to recover from this injury. Moyes was hoping that the striker returns to full fitness ahead of this clash against Chelsea, but now the former Everton manager has revealed that the striker is not yet ready to participate in this match and has refused to quote a return date for him.

“Wayne’s come back, he’s fresh but he’s not ready for Chelsea.

“He’s training, he’s on the grass, doing some running and looking quite good. He’s had a break, done a lot of strengthening work around his groin and hopefully enjoyed a few days in the sunshine as well. Hopefully he’ll benefit from it, but not for this game.

“I don’t want to put a date on it just now as I don’t want to say he’ll be fit for whatever game and then I find he’s not, but we’ve just got to take it bit by bit. I’ve watched him running today; he looks well and is in really good condition.“ – The Manchester United manager said.

Another key player, Robin van Persie, has also missed a lot of games this season and Moyes hopes that he can return to training in a week.

“I’m hoping Robin’s got a good chance of training at the start of next week. If i could get him back on the grass it would be a great boost for us – he’s a really important player and one we’ve missed.

“Both of them are getting closer to fitness, so let’s hope it’s not too long until we get him back.” – Moyes added.

Apart from the Rooney and Robin van Persie, United have also faced concerns about the fitness of Jonny Evans, Phil Jones, Ashley Young and summer signing Marouane Fellaini. Moyes revealed that Fellaini’s cast has been taken off and he could be back next week in training. Jones and Young have also made good progress in their recovery and could be available for this game as well – although neither of them are expected to start.

“I think we had nine players out [last weekend against Swansea City].

“Fellaini will have the cast taken off his hand on Monday. I’ve heard one or two people say it was only a wrist injury but it was a serious wrist injury that needed a major operation. It was bad. It could have been for the rest of his life so we had to make sure he got his wrist sorted properly. He has been able to do lots of running and lots of training but not anything with a football. Hopefully, next week, we will get ‘Felli’ back.

“Jonny Evans has had a problem with his back and Phil Jones has had a problem with his knee. He’s getting close to being available. Young’s injury was from the challenge against Tottenham that we wanted a penalty kick for, but it’s beginning to look as if he could be available and ready as well. We’re beginning to get a few people back.” – Moyes said.
