Manchester United target Arturo Vidal admits that he is still facing issues with his knee, but insists he is trying his best to get a 100 percent fit.
The Juventus midfielder suffered a muscle injury in his knee in 2014 and had to undergo a surgery at the end of the last season. However the player recovered in time to represent Chile in the World Cup in Brazil this summer, but failed to play for the full 90 minutes in any of his three appearances. The 27-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United throughout the summer transfer window, as new manager Louis van Gaal was keen on signing the player in an attempt to strengthen his attack. But after a long standing series of discussions between the English club and the Serie A side, any deal failed to come through, and the player stayed put with the Zebras largely due to his injury being a matter of concern for the Dutch manager.
And Vidal insists that even though he is recuperating well, his recovery is still a work in progress.
“The knee caused – and is causing – me problems”, the player was quoted as saying via the Daily Mail after he helped his side beat Torino 2-1 in a league game on Sunday.
“But I’m trying to get in top shape.”
Vidal has been nominated to play a key role at the Juventus Stadium under new manager Massimiliano Allegri, and has so far been carefully used by the Italian. Since the start of the new season, he has played in all but three of the White Blacks’ league fixtures and has scored on four occasions.
“I’m trying to adapt to my new role, which I like,” he said. “Playing there, I’m much closer to the goal, where I’m very comfortable.”For now, though, I’ve still only played a few games. So we’ll see at the end of the championship if I will have scored more goals in front of the midfielders.”
But with the winter transfer window just a month away, there would be new rumours surrounding the player’s future as United will once again be in the market for the former Bayer Leverkusen footballer. Van Gaal had already made it clear that he is keen on bringing Vidal to Old Trafford provided he proves his fitness and thus will be keeping a close eye on his injury status.
