Manchester United have reportedly tabled a bid of £32m for Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado as they continue their spending this summer.
After signing Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, Manchester United look to continue their spending spree and have reportedly made a move for Colombian star Juan Cuadrado, who has grabbed the headlines with his performances in Brazil.
The 26-year-old is currently preparing for Colombia’s quarter-final clash against Brazil in the World Cup and Cuadrado has produced some wonderful performance so far. Jose Pekerman’s side has been one of the most exciting teams in the World Cup and the Fiorentina winger has caught the attention of a lot of European clubs. Cuadrado has already provided four assists and a goal in four matches so far and this comes after a solid season with Fiorentina in the Serie A.
The Italian club finished fourth last season and Cuadrado produced 11 goals and five assists in 31 starts in the league. The numbers are impressive considering the various positions he was played across the season. One of Cuadrado’s greatest strength is his versatility. The former Udinese player has played as a right winger, wide forward (both left and right), striker, central attacking midfielder and as a right back.
Now reports from Italy suggest that Manchester United have made their move to sign the Fiorentina winger as they continue their spending spree this summer.
Louis van Gaal is looking to rebuild the United squad after the club endured a disappointment season under David Moyes last time around. The Red Devils have already signed Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, they have tabled a bid of £32m for the former Udinese star.
Manchester United do have a lot of wingers in their squad, but none of them have performed consistently for them in the last two seasons. Ashley Young has failed to impress, while Luis Nani is expected to leave Old Trafford in this summer. Antonio Valencia, who recently signed a new deal with the club, has also come under a lot of criticism for his performances recently. Cuadrado could fit into the United-system perfectly and his versatility will also provide van Gaal with lot of tactical options.
Recent reports also suggested that Arsene Wenger is keen to sign the Colombian international and according to Sportitalia, he has scheduled a meeting with his agent Alessandro Lucci in London next week. The Gunners are expected to spend heavily in this summer and Cuadrado joins the host of names that have been linked with a move to the Emirates.
But both Manchester United and Arsenal will face competition from Bayern Munich and Barcelona. The Catalan club are looking to rebuild their squad after a disappointing season and Cuadrado is a target they are interested in acquiring, while according to Sky Sport, Bayern Munich have already held a meeting with Cuadrado’s agent in Germany.
Fiorentina though are keen to hold onto their prized asset, although co-owner Andrea Della has admitted that Cuadrado’s performance in the World Cup is sure to attract a lot of interest.
