Manchester United has received a big setback as their long term target, Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller has decided to reject the offer of Red Devils.

The Guardian has reported today that “Manchester United are set for disappointment over Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller, one of their prime summer transfer targets, with the attacking midfielder not minded to leave the German champions and the club not wanting to sell him.”

Thomas Muller’s rejection comes as a second bad news in a day for Manchester United as Louis van Gaal has also ended the attempts to lure his team mate, Toni Kroos at Old Trafford, while the situation of Cesc Fabregas is also not very encouraging.

Thomas Muller got his first opportunity of his professional career when Van Gaal was the manager of Bayern Munich and hence, the Dutchman decided to lure him away from the Allianz Arena side.

The current role of Muller under Guardiola is also not fixed while he is not a regular starter for the Bavarians under the Spaniard. Still, Muller has decided to extend his stay at Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich has always given preference to keeping their German stars happy in their squad, also want Muller to be in their ranks for the longer term. Muller’s contract runs until 2017.

Another news coming from Germany for Manchester United fans is that of Toni Kroos. While he was in charge of United, David Moyes made Kroos his primary target but it seems that Louis van Gaal has vetoed that decision. It is also interesting to note that like Muller, Kroos also got his breakthrough under the Dutchman.

Toni Kroos was long been scouted by David Moyes to partner Maroune Falliani in the midfield as the German has only one year left in his contract. Known for his deep-lying role in Munich, Kroos was touted as the perfect candidate for United.

Recently, Bayern  president Karl Hopfner stressed that they are not interested in selling Kroos. “There will certainly be further talks but at some point the player has to say what he wants,” Hopfner told in an interview to Kicker magazine. “We will not exceed certain financial boundaries.”

“It was the same with Michael Ballack and at some point we withdrew the offer.”

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes too, is of the opinion that Kroos should have been the first priority of United. He said last week:

“The first player I’d bring in is Toni Kroos. He’s a top-class central midfield player but United need five or six to get anywhere near the top of the Premier League again.”

Now with both options of Kroos and Muller are gone, Van Gaal is likely to concentrate on signing of Kevin Strootman in coming days.
