Manchester United have identified Bayern Munich maestro Bastian Scheinstiger as their new target and are set to bid for the midfielder in coming days.

The Germany international does not fit well into the plans of coach Pep Guardiola and reportedly, the Spaniard is ready to sell Scheinsteiger in order to generate more funds for other signings.

German newspaper Bild has reported today that: “Bastian Schweinsteiger could be the new big name on Manchester United’s shortlist as Bayern Munich are preparing to cash in.”

Beyern management know that Manchester United are in the market for a quality central midfielder and hence, they are willing to talk to Red Devils’ management over the possible transfer.

Amidst the ongoing concerns over the possible delay in the recovery of Kevin Strootman from his long term injury, this update from Germany comes as welcome news for Ed Sherwood as he finds himself in tremendous pressure to sign at least one world class central midfielder.

Manchester United have long been hunt of able successor of Paul Scholes and they failed in their attempts till date. David Moyes signed Maroune Falliani last summer but the Belgian international failed so miserably that he has become a figure of joke for United supporters.

Michael Carrick is also fading very fast and his rapid decline was confirmed by England manager Roy Hodgson when he dropped him from his 23 man squad for the World Cup.

Now, midfield has become the biggest headache of Louis van Gaal and Ed Sherwood and they want to find a world class player sooner than later. The players who are named as potential successors include Cesc Fabregas, Kevin Strootman, Sami Khedira and Ander Herrera.

However, Scheinsteiger is a bigger name from all of them and exactly a kind of a player United are looking for. The midfielder has played almost 500 competitive matches for the Bavarian side, winning eight Bundesliga titles, the DFB-Pokal seven times and also claiming the Champions League and Club World Cup in the process.

Beyern coach Guardola has introduced a new system of 4-1-4-1 at Munich and he thinks Schinni is not suitable for this. The Spaniard has deployed Captain Philip Lahm as the only central midfielder on many occasions last season and wants to continue with the same philosophy.

Guardiola is also reluctant to play Scheinsteiger in more advanced position as he has already got the likes of Muller, Kroos, Thiago Alcantara, Ribery and Robben; all fighting for 4 spots.

However, Manchester United will not be the only suitors for Scheinsteiger. Real Madrid are also big admirers of the German and may decide to enter the race of his signature.
