Mats Hummels is the primary target of Manchester United but the club is also keeping a tab on Valencia centre back Nicolas Otamendi.

Signing of a top quality centre-back is the first priority of Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal at the moment and host of names including Mats Hummels, Vlaar and Nemanja Vidic are being linked with a move to the Old Trafford club since past few days.

Nicolas Otamendi of La Liga side Valencia has now caught the attention of Manchester United and the club is ready to splash 40 million euros to get the Argentina international in the winter transfer window.

Nicoalas Otamendi, who signed for Valencia in 2013, has caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs, including Paris Saint Germain, with a string of impressive displays for Los Che and Manchester United are now the latest entrants in the chase of Argentina international.

Meanwhile, reports coming from Spain and England have also confirmed the interest of Manchester United in Nicaolas Otamendi. Daily Express has claimed in its report today that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is keen on £47million-man Hummels, who is also a target of Arsenal and Manchester City. But if competition to sign the German pushes his transfer fee too high, the Old Trafford boss will turn his attention back to Otamendi, who looks set to become available this January.

Manchester United spent more than 150 million pounds on new acquisitions like Angel di Maria, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind in the summer transfer window but they failed to sign a world class central defender.

Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand left Manchester United during the summer while the likes of Phil Jones and Jonny Evans are continuously suffering with the injury concerns this season.

Manchester United are letting in too many goals this season because of the aforementioned reasons and coach Louis van Gaal is keen to sign a specialist central defender as soon as possible.

Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund is the preferred target of Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal but there is too much of a competition for the signature of the German as the likes of Arsenal, Man City and FC Barcelona are also interested in signing the player.

This ongoing competition for the signature of Mats Hummels has forced Manchester United to look elsewhere and Nicolas Otamendi of Valencia has caught the attention of Red Devils’ scouts with his impressive displays for the Mestalla based outfit. It is believed that Valencia want 40 million euros for Otamendi and Manchester United are ready to meet the asking price of Los Che.
