Manchester United are not done with their spending yet as the club has planned a January swoop for BVB defender Mats Hummels.
Manchester United spent more than 160 million euros on new signings like Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera during the summer transfer window but they failed to sign specialist central defender.
Louis van Gaal has asked the United management to sign a world class defender in January and Hummels is his preferred target.
Reports coming from England have also confirmed the interest of Manchester United in the BVB defender. The Daily Star report claims that: “The United boss lined up Germany World Cup winner Hummels all summer – but his interest came to nothing. Hummels was made the captain of Borussia Dortmund before the start of the season but Van Gaal is still desperate to get his man. The Dutchman has sat down with Old Trafford’s money men and told them to make Dortmund an offer they cannot refuse.”
Central area of defence is the biggest area of concern for Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal at the moment and he has asked the club management to make a move for the BVB defender Hummels. Jonny Evans and Phil Jones are at the disposal of Van Gaal but the Dutchman is not fully convinced with the skill set of both.
Manchester United were continuously linked with a move for Hummels during the summer but the transfer didn’t materialize and BVB made him the captain of the club. Now, Manchester United will have to make crazy offer for Hummels if they want to have any realistic chance of getting their man.
Hummels has already confirmed that there is no release clause in his contract because he wants a move away to benefit both him and the club. Hummels had said earlier that: “If I wanted to leave BVB one day, I would want it to be 100 percent open and fair for everyone.
“I wouldn’t like to say: ‘Oh, by the way, thank you for the last year, it was nice but I’m off’. I would like the club to have time to adjust to it.”
Meanwhile, another target of Manchester United is Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman. But the Dutch midfielder is currently recovering from a long term injury and Manchester United management will not make any move until they get completely satisfied with the progress made by the player.
