Manchester United authorities are on alert as long time target Ilkay Gundogan has said that he is keen to play outside Germany.

Ilkay Gundogan is widely recognized as the future of German midfield but his career is hampered by continuous injuries. The player is fully fit now and has said that he is keen to play either in La Liga or in the English Premier League.

Ilkay Gundogan was arguably the most important player of Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga winning side in 2012 and as a result of his promising displays, many of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid and Manchester United, made him their primary transfer target.

Ilkay Gungogan missed almost whole of last season due to injury but he is back now and speaking about his future plans, the youngster said yesterday that:

“Real Madrid made an offer for me last year but my club refused it. At the time I had two more seasons on my contract. But also, my injury wrecked everything. I couldn’t play for 14 months.

“Now I want to look forward and make up for lost time with sporting success. Playing outside Germany is one of my big goals. If one day I leave here, I’d like to play in Spain or for one of the big teams in England.”

Meanwhile, reports coming from Germany and England have also confirmed the renewed interest of Manchester United in Ilkay Gundogan.

The Daily Mail report claims that: “Ilkay Gundogan has pricked up the ears of Manchester United after the Borussia Dortmund midfielder revealed he is open to a move to the Barclays Premier League. Gundogan won the Bundesliga title with Dortmund in 2012 but has grown frustrated in Germany, having seen his career stall due to a back injury that restricted him to just three appearances last year.”

Manchester United are interested in signing top quality midfielder either in January or in the summer transfer window and this ‘come and get me’ plea by Ilkay Gundogan has put them on alert.

It is being reported that Ilkay Gundogan is not happy with Borussia Dortmund after seeing his career stall after continuous injuries. The 24 year old wants to move abroad in order to regain his reputation as one of the most talented midfielder of world football. However, Manchester United will have to beat the competition of Real Madrid if they want to sign Ilkay Gundogan as the current European champions are also long time admirers of the player.
