Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has set his heart on a move to Italian club SSC Napoli.

The Belgian international moved to Manchester United from Everton last year but failed to justify his hefty price tag. Fellaini was persuaded by then manager David Moyes to join United but new manager Louis van Gaal has reportedly asked the club management to sign another world class midfielder.

Fellaini fears that he will not get regular playing time if Manchester United succeed in signing another midfielder and hence, he has asked the management for a move to SSC Napoli.

Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is looking to add some more depth to his squad and sees Fellaini as the perfect candidate to partner Gokhan Inler in the heart of the midfield. The player himself is also confident that he will get a regular playing time at Napoli. Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport has also confirmed today that the Belgian international is looking for a transfer and Napoli is his preferred destination.

It now appears that Manchester United management has also accepted that it is going to be very difficult to hold onto the player and their only object now is to get maximum possible return from the sale of the player. Manchester United paid almost 35 million euros for Fellaini last year and they want at least 25 million from his sale. However, Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentis is reluctant to spend this much amount and he is planning to make initial loan offer of one year with an option to make a move permanent.

I Want A New Defender: Van Gaal

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has admitted that he wants to sign at least one defender this summer.

Manchester United have already signed Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera this summer but they have so far failed to find any replacement for Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, who have already left the club.

Manchester United was linked with a move to Stefan de Vrij earlier but he has signed for Italian side SS Lazio now. However, Manchester United remain confident over the possible signing of Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen but Arsene Wenger will not grant his sale until he gets a replacement.

“I am looking at the defenders we have first,” Van Gaal told reporters in a press conference.

“And, when you see our three matches, we are doing well, I think. But it is right that we are looking for defenders, because a lot of defenders have gone.

“We have to replace them but I also like Michael Keane and Tyler Blackett.”
