English Premier League giants Manchester United are continuing their revamp under Netherlands manager Louis Van Gaal. Juventus and Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal is a £40 Million target of the Red Devils.
Manchester United have already strengthened their squad with the additions of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw. They are believed to be in discussions to sign a center back or two. Defensive additions are a priority for Manchester United after the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemandja Vidic. Germany and Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels tops their wishlist, while Arsenal’s Thomas Vermalean and Netherlands international Stefan De Vrij are also considered as alternatives.
Even though Manchester United are looking for central defenders to plug their gaps in defence, it hasn’t prevented them from looking elsewhere for strengthening the squad. Midfield has been a major area of concern for the Red Devils last season. Manchester United’s failure to finish within Top 6 can be attributed to a poor and clueless midfield.
Michael Carrick, one of their most consistent performers in the past, had a comparatively poor season. David Moyes’ addition Mourane Fellaini found it difficult to continue his Everton performances in a Manchester United shirt and he is regarded as a transfer failure. The long term injury had derailed Darren Feltcher’s career and academy graduate Tom Cleverly looked clueless on occasions. Veteran Ryan Giggs and Striker Wayne Rooney also played as central midfielders to arrest the slide, but Manchester United didn’t get the answers within.
The addition of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao is expected to solve some of the problems for Manchester United. He might not be able to deliver the goods immediately in Premier League, and as a youngster it is a long term signing. In the absence of a key performer in midfield last season, Herrera alone won’t be sufficient to dictate the tempo in Premier League matches. This realization has forced the Old Trafford hierarchy to look for a player who can make an immediate impact.
Chile’s star player Arturo Vidal is targeted by Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal. Juventus midfielder is expected to cost around £40 Million for Manchester United. The Guardian has reported that the new Manchester United manager is an admirer of the Chile medio. Juventus are long term admirers of Luis Nani, whom Manchester United might be willing to include in the deal to increase their chances of wrapping up a deal.
Van Gaal builds his side around a strong midfield and the addition of Arturo Vidal, who is coming in the aftermath of a good World Cup is expected to add more steel and purpose to the Red Devils midfield. Manchester United do not have European football to offer and it remains to be seen whether Louis Van Gaal can convince Arturo Vidal to join his revolution at Old Trafford.
