Manchester United have approached Portuguese side Benfica for Enzo Perez, indicate reports

Manchester United have reportedly made an approach to Benfica in an attempt to sign Enzo Perez. The midfielder is currently on duty with his national side at the World Cup and has been part of his team’s progress to the final of the tournament. Perez looked very impressive against Netherlands in the semi-final, where he started the game in place of injured Angel di Maria.

Perez has enjoyed 18 great months with the Portuguese club and looks certain to leave, with a lot of top teams interested in his signature. The player recently signed a new four-year-contract with the club.

According to A Bola, the Manchester side has made a £7million offer for the 28-year-old and are now awaiting a response.

Valencia have been linked with the player for a long time and Perez even commented on their interest after Argentina’s win over Belgium, “There is the possibility of playing for Valencia, who are a great club, but right now I want to be fully focused on the Argentina national team and on the World Cup.”

“I am very happy at Benfica, I signed the contract renewal before traveling to join the Argentina squad, which shows that I want to keep wearing this shirt. I am feeling very well at Benfica and I know the club will try to do the best for me. I’ll respect what they decide.”

Manchester United’s interest in the player emerged later and they look set to hijack the bid for the player.  However, the sum reportedly being offered by Valencia is £20m, and keeping that in mind, United’s reported offer is quite less and it remains to be seen whether Benfica will sell the player for £13m less.

Louis van Gaal has looked very ambitious in this transfer window and looks set to make radical changes to the squad. He spoke at the time of his appointment, that he was directly aiming at the title this season, which would be a stark contrast of what happened with the club in the previous edition of the Premier League. Even while being away on duty with the Netherlands side, United have wrapped up two important deals- Anders Herrera and Luke Shaw. The management has given van Gaal a good war-chest and is ready to see some revamping, which has clearly, already begun. The Dutch boss would be returning soon to Manchester and would start his business from England then. His transfer targets are already identified and he reportedly really wants Perez to join United as he feels that his signature would add the much needed quality to the depth in the side.

United are also in advanced talks with Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal and are also competing with PSG to land Angel di Maria.
