Dutch international Stefan de Vrij hasn’t signed for Manchester United yet, explains the player’s agent
Reports of Feyenoord and Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij signing for Manchester United are doing rounds and the player’s agent has claimed that no truth lies in these speculations.
It had been reported that the 20 time league winners were set to make a move in the region of £7 million- £12 million for the Feyenoord defender, who is part of new boss Louis van Gaal’s Dutch side. However, the 22 year old’s agent has already cleared the air and clarified that his client has not signed a contract with the Premier League giants. He said that the Netherlands player is only focused on his side’s World Cup campaign.
“We have no agreement with Manchester United, nor have we signed for them” his agent told Lazionews24.com.
“I don’t know where this rumour came from. Stefan is concentrated only on the World Cup and he wants to continue doing well.”
There were some rumors linking the player with a move to Serie A side Lazio as well. His agent refused to comment on the matter. He said, “Links to Lazio? No comment”
United need to bolster their defensive options after Nemanja Vidic departed for Inter, with Rio Ferdinand also leaving the club.
De Vrij could be a good addition to the United side who need two world class centre backs coming in, to replace the veterans. Only 22 year old, the player has shown promise and has had a good World Cup so far. He could become even better under van Gaal’s guidance in the coming months and might prove to be a bargain for United.
Having their new manager away on duty with his current team in charge- the Netherlands- at the World Cup hasn’t halted any transfer progress as the Red Devils have already wrapped up to big signings. Ander Herrera has finally become a United player (after the long pursuit last season), after having completed a move to the Manchester side from La Liga club Athletic Bilbao.
The £30m capture of 18-year-old Southampton left-back Luke Shaw has been the highlight of the summer transfer window in general as the talented full back completed a high profile move to the league’s biggies and has a lot to prove for the hefty he has come with.
United are linked with a lot of players and have reportedly identified Juventus’ Arturo Vidal as someone they want to bring in to the club as they look to bolster the squad further after having a disastrous season which saw them miss out on a Champions League spot. Reports in Italy claim that Antonio Conte’s side have told the Red Devils they won’t accept anything less than £40m for their star man.
The Manchester club are also linked with Sami Khedira, Mats Hummels, Angel di Maria and are also ready to hijack Arsenal’s pursuit of Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez.
It is evident that the Manchester United management has given van Gaal the green light on the talents he wants to bring in to completely revamp the side and directly target the title for next season. As far as de Vrij is concerned, negotiations would probably begin after the World Cup and the player is interested in teaming up with his national coach at United.
