Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who has been linked with Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid, has revealed that he is yet to decide about his future.
The German international has made only one appearance in the league so far this season as he struggled with a muscular injury. Gundogan’s absence from the midfield has affected Dortmund this season as Jurgen Klopp’s men have dropped down to fourth in the Bundesliga table and are a massive 12 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.
The German club who lost Mario Gotze to Bayern Munich last season, have also seen their prolific striker Robert Lewandowski sign a pre-contract with the reigning European Champions few days back and will now have to be concerned about the possibility of losing Ilkay Gundogan in the summer as well.
The 23-year-old, who is widely considered among the best young midfielders in Europe currently, joined Dortmund from FC Nurnberg back in 2011 and has since then been a vital part of Jurgen Klopp’s team which won the league in 2011-12 season. With eighteen months left in his contract, Gundogan has now become one of the most sought after players in Europe currently with clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona being linked with a move for him. Having lost Lewandowski for free as his contract runs out at the end of this season, Dortmund will be keen to tie down Gundogan with a new contract before the end of this season. But reports suggest that Gundogan could be on his way out of Westfalenstadion as well.
Gundogan on his part has now revealed that he is yet to decide on his future and the midfielder is keeping his options open at the moment.
“I have not made a final decision yet.
“BVB are the first team I am talking to, I will soon make a well-thought decision. But I am keeping my options open at this point.
“Borussia Dortmund have not set me an ultimatum.
“I am just trying to get healthy again and get back to my best form. That’s the main priority for BVB and for myself.” – The German international said in an interview to Bild.
Manchester United, who are desperate to strengthen their midfield, are keen on Gundogan and are monitoring his situation at Dortmund along with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. But reports suggest that Gundogan might prefer a move to La Liga if he decides to leave Dortmund. There is sure to be a mad scramble for his signature in the summer and the race is already heating up.
