Shinji Kagawa has failed to make his mark at Manchester United since his 20 million transfer from BVB and now, Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are ready to end his Old Trafford nightmare.
Atletico Madrid are in process of rebuilding their attack after the sales of Diego Costa, Adrian Lopez and David Villa. Newly appointed manager of Manchester United, Louis van Gaal is also ready to let Kagawa go and Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone believes that a player could prove useful in his attempt to win the La Liga title for the second year in a row.
Reports coming out from Spain and England have also confirmed the interest of Atletico Madrid in the player. Spanish Daily Mundo Deportivo report claims that: “Atletico Madrid are considering a move for Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa. The Spanish champions are rebuilding their squad this summer and Kagawa, who is one of those players Louis van Gaal is prepared to discard at Old Trafford, has emerged as a target for Atletico manager Diego Simeone. Kagawa, 25, is viewed by Atletico as an alternative to Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla.”
Shinji Kagawa arrived at Manchester United in 2012 amid much fanfare but failed to win the confidence of Sir Alex Fergusson and David Moyes. He has struggled to nail down a place in the first-team and new boss Louis van Gaal is ready to discard him in order to generate more funds for other transfers.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone was reportedly interested in Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla earlier but the factor going against the Spaniard is his age. Kagawa, 25, is a younger and cheaper option than Cazorla and Atletico boss Simeone is of the opinion that he could fit in well in his playing philosophy.
However, Atletico Madrid is not the only club interested in Kagawa. German side Borussia Dortmund is also ready to bring Kagawa back at Signal Iduna Park.
I Am Not Worried By Lack Of Manchester United Signings: Van Gaal
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said that he is not worried by the lack of new signings so far.
Manchester United have planned a complete overhaul of their squad this summer but have only signed Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw till date. Manchester United are expected to sign at least one centra defender and a defensive midfielder during this transfer window.
But when asked whether he is worried that there has been very little activity at Manchester United, Van Gaal said: “I want to give the current players an honest chance. We are winning everything; maybe we don’t need other players.”
