Manchester City are set to battle Manchester United for the signature of AC Milan’s Adil Rami, as per reports in Italy. AC Milan are under severe pressure to offload their defensive lynch pin, with both Manchester clubs lurking in the shadows.

Adil Rami was signed for a transfer fee of just £3m by AC Milan from Spanish side Valencia, and within a span of 14 month, Rami’s market value has tripled – around £10m.

The 28 year old has been AC Milan’s defensive conductor, whilst failing to impress national team coach Didier Deschamps, earning his last cap for the nation in February 2013.

Adil Rami believes that a move to a much more challenging Premier League, might prove his worth to Deschamps and could cement his spot for the  Euro 2016 championship squad.

Boasting an imposing presence, Rami was first recognized as a budding defender in 2007, when he joined Lille from Frejus. After four years of consistent performances, Rami was snapped up by Spanish club Valencia. After a controversial three years with Valencia, Rami’s deal was made permanent with AC Milan for just £3m.

Although Rami has dished decent and stagnant performances for AC Milan, while being their defensive lynch pin, both Manchester clubs have joined the hunt for his signature.

Both, Manchester City and Manchester United reel with defensive duties and with both teams failing to make a decent impression on the league, while exposing their defense regularly, new recruits could be on their way.

Manchester City’s hefty signing in the form of Equalim Mangala has not worked wonders, and the former Porto man has been exposed to the fast pace game of English football, constantly.

Manchester City currently lie third, with a massive six points gap between them and league leaders Chelsea. Manchester City boss is already believed to have eyed Adil Rami as a possible target to cement his defensive worries.

Meanwhile, Manchester United reel at seventh – a position which is uncharted and perhaps new to many United supporters even after last year’s horrendous campaign.

Gaffer Louis van Gaal could look to bolster his defense as United have looked defensively frail, whilst being constantly exposed to injuries and other shortcomings.

With Marcos Rojo out for the better half of the season, Adil Rami could be signed by Manchester United, in a hope to rejuvenate and cement their ailing defense.

A move for Adil Rami, is set to ensure a possible competition between Manchester City and Manchester United, with AC Milan being the eventual winners as the Italian giants could sell Rami for almost thrice the sum he was brought for.

Meanwhile, Adil Rami could be more than happy with this move as he will get to play in the Premier League, whilst hoping to prove a point to Didier Deschamps.
