Manchester City have been linked to £20m Southampton Striker, Jay Rodriguez. Rodriguez, has been identified by Manuel Pellegrini as a target to rejuvenate and bolster his ailing squad. Pellegrini is keen to sign the 25 year old Englishman and could try gunning for his signature – as early as January.

Jay Rodriguez meanwhile, is currently recovering from a cruiciate knee ligament injury sustained during Saints’ visit to City last April and has not played all season.

Although Jay Rodriguez has been noted as a stellar performer in Southampton, he was a prolific goalscorer way back with Burnley. The 25 year old who is known for his technical skills alongwith his penchant for off the ball hard work, had won Burnely’s player of the year in 2010.

After moving to Southampton, Rodriguez featured in a squad which showcased high quality football. Although, Rodriguez has not been a part of Southampton’s squad, he enjoyed a brilliant 2013-14 season, wherein he scored 17 goals in 39 appearances.

Meanwhile, Manchester City reel with all sorts of problems available. The Champions have been a failed and former shadow of themselves, whilst showcasing and displaying dismayal performances.

Manchester City were held to a 2-2 draw against Queens Park Rangers and Sergio Aguero has been the only standout performer for the Sky Blues thus far.

Manchester City although sit at third, have not enjoyed a decent start to their Premier League endeavors and as the scenario stands, are six points behind league leaders Chelsea.

City have also displayed signs of complacency in the Champions League and are perhaps one of the most likely teams not to qualify for the latter stages.

With injury concerns of Vincent Kompany, City are also struggling with a defense which leaks unnecessary goals. Equalim Mangala, has been at the heart of defensive crisis, as the former Porto man has dished uncanny performances.

Attacking worries are another major concern for City, as the Champions have failed to break Premier League defenses at will. Sergio Aguero is the only leading light in the attacking department and with Yaya Toure’s form withering out, City could splash money in the January transfer window to buy talents.

Although Jay Rodriguez, might not be a ‘big’ or a ‘star’ name associated with Manchester City, the ‘other side’ of Manchester could be willing to sign a striker, which gives them quality along with squad depth.

But Rodriguez, who has not featured since April, is an unlikely target for City and given the sum of £20m, it is more than unlikely that Manchester City will spend that much amount of money on the Southampton man.

Manchester City take on a resurgent Swansea City side after the International break and clash swords with Bayern Munich days later.
