Liverpool showing interest in Real Madrid midfielder, Isco as Los Blacos prepare to free up funds to sign £70m rated James Rodriguez
Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Isco from Real Madrid, according to reports from Goal.com It was reported back in February that the Reds were keen on making the Madrid midfielder their costliest signing come the summer. Liverpool were apparently planning a reported £37m move for the ex-Malaga player.
Liverpool have spent a hefty amount in the transfer window already (£57m approximately) but that has been with the war-chest handed out to Brendan Rodgers before the departure of Luis Suarez, which was reported to be £60m. Rodgers now has another £75m to spend in the summer and he has made it clear that a few more players will be brought in.
Goal.com has now revealed that the Madrid club is ready to listen to offers for the 22 year old they brought in last summer. The arrival of Toni Kroos, and the potential arrival of James Rodriguez means that Carlo Ancelotti will have to clear his squad a fair bit as well. Besides, Monaco have valued James at £70 million and Real Madrid understand that they would have to let some players go to make sure their finances don’t take a huge blow. Angel di Maria and Sami Khedira are the names which have been doing rounds, as the players who would be making their way out of Spain
For Isco, these two additions could mean being further pushed back in the pecking order. After being brought in last summer, Isco managed his share of first team chances, but got receded to the bench towards the end of the season. Ancelotti struggled the use him in his 4-3-3 formation and Luka Mordic was preferred to Isco. The arrival of Kroos means that he would primarily be used from the bench and a player of his talent, moreover age, needs regular game time.
Liverpool could prove to be the perfect destination for the player. He could easily fit into either one of Rodgers’ 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation. He has the capability of directly fitting in the starting 11 of the team. His arrival would keep the likes of Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana on their toes. Moreover, he would prove to be the perfect long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard. The fact that he can play anywhere in the midfield, an attacking midfielder or in the deeper role, would be a very inviting factor for Brendan Rodgers who wants versatile players in the team.
Manchester City, who have been interested in the 22 year old for a long time are also keeping tabs on the situation. Goal.com further state that City are interested in a loan deal for the player, while Real want a permanent move to free up funds. Isco’s close relationship with Pellegrini make City the number one choice for Isco. However, this would only happen if the Manchester side would make a permanent offer for the player.
Isco’s arrival would be a good for Liverpool. However, with the addition of Markovic and Lallana, it can be said that getting the player is not an urgent requirement for the Merseyside club. The Reds need to address their defence and have already lost out of Ben Davies to Tottenham and Alberto Moreno, who Sevilla are unwilling to sell below their valuation. A quality striker also needs to be added- someone who possesses enough goals in him to make sure Suarez’s absence is not felt next season. Therefore, Isco would be a very good signing, but other positions need to be addressed first.
