Liverpool FC are targeting PSG’s unhappy man Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Lavezzi has refused to travel to Morocco to meet up with the rest of the PSG squad for a mid-winter training retreat. And it is now being claimed that the player is looking for a move away from the Parisian giants and could go for a meagre £8m, which is almost half of the £17m PSG were demanding in the summer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the player has turned down an offer to renew his contract and has since been told by the club that they are looking to renew their squad.

Lavezzi has previously played for Genoa and Napoli in Italy and there have been continuous links with Italian clubs like Inter, the player is thought to be keen to continue his career in the Premier League. After Inter failed to snap Allesio Cerci, who is moving to AC Milan on a swap deal with Torres moving to Atletico, Mancini is believed to be closing in on Arsenal’s Lucas Podolski and also Chelsea’s Mohamed Salah, both surplus to requirements at their clubs currently.

This puts Liverpool in a good position as they won’t have any major competition for the player and could get him close to the base price of £8m

Lavezzi can play anywhere in the attack- as a forward or on the wings. A player reputed to be extremely hardworking, he tends to impress spectators with his pace and dribbling. He still has two years left in his current contract with the Parisian side. He moved to the French club in 2012, after a five year stint with Serie A side Napoli.

The 29 year old scored 12 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions last season, and helped his side lift the French League Cup as well as defend their league title.

Liverpool should be looking to get in some goalscorers this January as the lack of goals in the absence of Daniel Sturridge and in presence of misfiring summer arrival Mario Balotelli, has been a huge cause for concern and one of the main reasons for them being so poor this season. Lavezzi for 8m is a good option to consider since he adds experience to a very young Liverpool team and provides Brendan Rodgers with an extra option. He could be played on the wings in the presence of Sturridge, or as a forward in his absence. He is also a dangerous player to have coming on from the bench in matches. Hence, Lavezzi seems like a good player to pursue for the Reds and with their being a lot of sings in the summer, it seems Liverpool might be monitoring his ongoings in France.
