Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri is dissatisfied with the lack of game time at his club and seems to be considering his future with the Bavarian giants.
Shaqiri was courted by various clubs in the summer, notably Liverpool. However, Bayern Munich kept insisting through the summer that they had no plans to sell that 23 year old and reassured the player that he was going to be a big part of the future. Shaqiri has been touted as the long term replacement for Frank Ribery.
However, so far the player has not been used as much he would have wanted to. Shaqiri has made eight appearances for the Bundesliga team in the league so far, but five of these have come off the bench. He has one goal and two assists to his name in the league, and has also scored once in the Champions League (in the 7-1 annihilation of AS Roma).
The player has now revealed that Liverpool’s summer bid for him was rejected by Bayern as they refused to let him leave. Shaqiri also insisted that he will hold talks with Bayern again before deciding to push for a move this winter, while also admitted that he may never be a starter for Pep Guardiola’s team.
“Of course I want to be playing more,” Shaqiri told Switzerland’s Blick newspaper.
“I wanted a move in the summer, of course, but the club made their decision and I’ve just got to live with it. I just felt after the World Cup that it would be better for me to try something new. I thought about moving and I had lots of enquiries, but Bayern decided I had to stay — and you can’t do much about that as a player.”
“Everybody knows I want to be playing more. I’ve got to speak with Bayern before anybody, and we will sit down again this winter. I just get the impression I would never be a regular starter, not even if I score in every game.”
Shaqiri’s contract at Bayern Munich runs until 2016, and by the looks of things, he doesn’t seem too keen to stay at the Allianz Arena. Liverpool are currently struggling in the league and would be greatly boosted by hy his signature. Brendan Rodgers should definitely try for him in the winter again as the player seems keen to be moving to a club where he will be utilized more. At present, Shaqiri can easily walk in the starting 11 of the Reds and can help them challenge for the top 4 spots this season.
