Arsenal and Liverpool are ready to lock horns again as they want to bring in Barcelona’s Bojan Krkic.

The 23 year old has been dubbed a flop as he has failed to live up to the potential he showed as a teenager. Bojan broke into the Barcelona side as a teenager as he made his debut aged 17 years and 19 days back in 2007, breaking Lionel Messi’s record as youngest Barca player to feature in La Liga. But he has failed to kick on since. The winger has now been receded to the fringes of the Barcelona side after his impressive breakthrough. He spent most of the last three seasons away from the club on loan to Ajax, AS Roma and then Milan. He made 24 league appearances for Ajax last season in which he scored four times and provided three assists.

The 23 year old has one year left on his contract but reportedly is set to leave the club for a cheap sum, which could be just a nominal fee, and Barca are looking ready to pay part of the player’s salary for one season to get him off their ranks.

It was reported a few days back through Spanish radio station Cadena Cope  that the Gunners were interested in giving the Spaniard a chance to renew his faltering career. They face competition from  Olympiakos, Malaga and recent reports have suggested that Liverpool are also entering the race to sign the player.

Liverpool and Arsenal have recently locked horns for the signature of one of the biggest stars in the world today- Chilean Alexis Sanchez. The Reds held talks with the talented Chile international and hoped he would agree to be a makeweight in the Luis Suarez deal. Both Arsenal and Liverpool were willing to pay Barcelona’s valuation of around £30million and were not deterred from the hefty fee demanded for the player so it eventually came down to the player’s preference. But it is now reported that Liverpool have admitted defeat to land the player as Sanchez’s preference is the Gunners. The prime reason for his decision is cited as the desire of Sanchez’s family to live in the capital.

It looks like the two would now be battling it out for another Bacelona player. Krkic is undoubtedly a great talent- he possesses all the attributes one would expect from a La Masia graduate: skill, balance and wonderful dribbling skills. However, for one reason or another, he has not lived up to the hype he created after scoring against Schalke in the Champions League quarter-final as a 17 year old. There is more than good possibility that his career can tick off again, with the ideal guidance and regular game time.

It is reported that Bojan is awaiting the outcome of Sanchez’s move before making a decision. If Arsenal successfully land Alexis, they might give up on the other Barca man. Liverpool should definitely capitalize on this as getting Bojan on almost a free transfer carries little risk. With the work Brendan Rodgers has done with young men at Liverpool, there is a good chance we see the 23 year old doing damage for Liverpool next season.
