Liverpool are reportedly already in talks with Bayern Munich attacker Xherdan Shaqiri and are now looking at two more Bundesliga players- Roberto Firmino and Max Meyer
Liverpool look to be set to open talks with Hoffenheim midfielder Roberto Firmino, indicate reports.
Reports in Germany are doing rounds which state that Liverpool CEO Ian Ayre will fly down to Germany to negotiate a deal for the £20m rated Firmino.
There were reports as early as in February that the Reds were looking at the Brazilian with a summer transfer in mind.
Liverpool’s move for Adam Lallana has slowed and while Liverpool have apparently told the Englishman he’s their top priority, Southampton are reluctant to let go of their prized asset and are demanding a fee Liverpool are not ready to pay.
Liverpool do face competition from Chelsea who are also interested in the player as Jose Mourinho belives that Firmino could be the perfect foil for Diego Costa.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, the Brazilian has played as a second striker as well as on both the wings so far for Hoffenheim. He has the ability to make intricate passes and has the eye for goal. His ability to pick the perfect pass coupled with his excellent vision and awareness make him a huge threat. This gives Liverpool the added boost of not having to replace either Jordan Henderson, who brings stability in the centre or Philippe Coutinho, as the Brazilian duo combined would absolutely torment defences. This also makes him an attractive proposition for Rodgers who has stated time and again, that he wants ‘multi-dimensional’ players at the club, as it gives him an added advantage as a manager.
In conclusion, Liverpool should be willing to spend a considerable amount on the player as he is young and is in absolutely devastating touch at the moment.
Liverpool bid for Max Meyer
Liverpool are all set to launch a £8million bid for German sensation Max Meyer, with Liverpool scouts reportedly monitoring him for large part of last season. Reports in England and Germany suggest a deal is now firmly on the cards.
Metro claim that that Brendan Rodgers is going to make an £8million soon and Liverpool are hopeful it will be enough to do business. The report also suggests that ‘the fee will all be up front but Schalke will get a percentage of any sell-on fee plus lucrative bonus payments if Meyer helps Liverpool win trophies’.
The Liverpool manager was in attendance in a Schalke match earlier in January, to personally watch the 18 year old likened to Lionel Messi and Mario Götze
The attacking midfielder has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at the Veltins-Arena since making his Bundesliga debut. He only made four appearances till the end of the 2012/13 season (having made his debut in Jan), but Meyer went on to make 41 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring seven goals and contributing four assists in the process. His brilliant season got the attention of Germany coach Joachim Low who named him in the the 30-man provisional squad for the World Cup. The 18-year-old made his first senior appearance against Poland last month. However, he was not included in the final 23 man list.
Meyer can play on the wings as well, but his preferred position is that of an attacking midfielder.
The youngster would be a quality addition for Liverpool, who are looking for depth and quality in their squad after a return to Champions League. He is a player who fits both FSG’s (Liverpool owners) and Brendan Rodgers’s policy and Liverpool should try to successfully fight off Arsenal and Chelsea’s interest to grab his signature.
