It has been reported that Liverpool pulled off from the Loic Remy deal because of a failed medical. However, QPR boss Harry Redknapp is determined it was due to other reasons.

Liverpool ECHO reported: “Liverpool FC have refused to comment on why the deal won’t be completed but it is believed to be related to a problem with his medical. The 27-year-old underwent the usual medical tests before going to New York after the club granted him a few days off. Anfield sources put the delay in announcing his signing down to a minor paperwork issue but it appears that Liverpool were in fact seeking a second opinion over a medical issue. On the back of that advice they took the decision not to proceed with the transfer.”

However, Queen Parks Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has gone on record and stated that this could not have been the reason for the Reds pulling out of the deal at the last moment. He insisted Remy was a very fit player and the fact that he has completed his medicals successfully at various clubs in the past is proof that his health is on track and the failure of a move must have been ‘other reasons’

“I just can’t believe that he’s failed a medical. He had a stringent medical here, he had one at Newcastle, he had one at Marseille. He’s never had a problem with his fitness. You couldn’t meet a fitter lad. I don’t think there could be any issue [with a medical].

“Their loss is our gain but from a selfish perspective. I said when he left last year that he’s a striker that can get 20 goals in the Premier League. That’s what we need him to do, come back here and score 20 goals for QPR and try and keep us in the division.

“I’m sorry that his move to Liverpool fell through but from my point of view I’ve got a great striker. But it can’t be a medical. It must be other reasons.”

Remy was very close to completing his move to the Meseyside club. He flew to Boston last week to link up with the squad on their tour of the United States of America. Liverpool had  triggered the release clause in his contract by then. Personal terms were also said to be agreed between the two parties and the QPR striker who scored 14 goals on loan at Newcastle was set to be handed over the No 7 shirt vacated by Luis Suarez- following his transfer to Barcelona. However, just when reports of an official announcement being imminent were doing rounds, the news of him failing a medical started doing rounds.

It has been reported that Liverpool might have pulled the plug on this signing because of Fabio Borini’s move to Sunderland collapsing. But this is just speculation. Gus Poyet is still determined to land the Italian and his future with the Reds remains uncertain. Rodgers will now turn his attention elsewhere and rumors are doing rounds of the club looking at Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette as the replacement.
