Liverpool‘s summer recruits Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic will miss the opening game due to injury.

The duo, who signed for Liverpool from Southampton and Benfica in this summer window will have to wait to make their debuts.

Liverpool kick-off the new Premier League season on Sunday when they face Southampton at Anfield. Full-back Jon Flanagan and centre back Daniel Agger are also set to miss out on footballing action, but Brendan Rodgers confirmed that the players are nearing full fitness. this news.

“Young Jon Flanagan is still in rehab, but coming along very well,” Rodgers told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

 “Adam Lallana is looking very well. Those two will probably start training with the group in the week beginning with Manchester City.

“Young Markovic is still unavailable this weekend but doing very well. Daniel Agger has had an ongoing injury so he is unavailable; apart from that, everyone else is fine.”

Rodgers hopes the deal to sign Sevilla full-back Alberto Moreno will be “completed soon”. The 22 year old has already started training with the group as teammate Suso put up a picture on Social Media platform Instagram training alongside Moreno and Manquillo, another summer recruit. Liverpool have already have officially announced that the deal was completed ‘in principle’ but Rodgers chose to remain diplomatic till the club announces the player officially. He said,  “He will be a fantastic signing if that happens.”

Moreno comes in to replace Jose Enrique as the first choice left back and the fact that the Reds spent almost the entire summer pursuing him means that Rodgers would want him to fit into the starting 11 straight away. Moreno would probably be instilled in the first 11 against Manchester City, the side Liverpool face after Southampton. He will be unavailable against the visiting Saints as Liverpool Echo Journalist James Pearce has said that the player cannot be fielded due to the paperwork not registering in time.
