Liverpool have reportedly placed Cristian Tello high on a list of potential transfer targets ahead of the summer window.

Liverpool are hopeful of securing a deal to sign long term target Cristian Tello. However, a deal could only materialize if Barcelona manage to get their FIFA transfer ban overturned.

Tello has been on Liverpool’s radar even before Brendan Rodgers took over the reign at the Merseyside club, with Kenny Dalglish reported to have been keen on the attacker.

Reports indicate that Barclona will be ready to part with the 22 year old for a sum in the region of  £12m.

Brendan Rodgers is hoping for reinforcements for next season when his Liverpool side potentially compete in four competitions. The Northern Irishman will be well aware of the need of adding quality players to his side to increase the depth in the squad.

However, any deal will depend on the outcome of Barcelona’s appeal to overturn a 14-month transfer ban, which was imposed on them by FIFA earlier this month where they can’t make any dealings- in or out- in the squad for the next two transfer windows. The Catalan club has been found guilty of breaching rules relating to “the international transfer of minors”. Barca, who can appeal the ruling, have also been fined £350,000 and told to regulate the situation within 90 days.

Despite the potential stumbling block, Liverpool officials are believed to have made contact with Barcelona to declare their interest in the 22-year-old.

Tello is a fast attacking player. He can play on either wings and can also play as a number 10 or as a striker. He is particularly good in one on one situations or straight down the middle.

Liverpool evidently need a winger for the left side of the pitch as loaned in signing Victor Moses has failed to impress in his time at the Anfield outfit, making any chances of a permanent transfer bleak. The deals for Yevhen Konoplyanka and Mohamed Salah failed in the winter transfer window and thus filling this void would be Rodgers’s priority

Tello looks like the ideal man for the job. The youngster has impressed whenever called upon by Tata Martino, but hs first team chances have evidently been limited as he has been used as a substitute 16 times in the 18 times he has featured for the club in the league. His meager two La Liga starts this term have been mainly due to the arrival of Neymar and the excellent form shown by Chilean Alexis Sanchez. He could thus be tempted by a move to Liverpool as the Spaniard would have more first team opportunities in the Premier League side.
