Liverpool FC face Swansea City in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.
Colin Pascoe, Liverpool’s assistant manager who took the pre-match conference in the absence of Brendan Rodgers, has revealed Mamadou Sakho is recovering well from the thigh injury that has kept him out since the start of the month
Sakho hurt his thigh in a training session in the build-up to the trip to Basel and has been absent from the squad ever since.
“He’s progressing well,” said Pascoe.
“He was unfortunate – he came back and picked up a similar injury. Another couple of weeks and hopefully he’ll be back.”
Pascoe also said there were no problems surrounding Sakho’s walkout before the Merseyside derby. The French defender left the stadium before the game began after he was told he was not in the squad. He apologized afterwards.
“As soon as he’s fit and raring to go, he’s available,” added Pascoe.
Pascoe said that left-back Jose Enrique would miss the game as he suffered from a slight knock alongside Daniel Sturridge who hasn’t played for Liverpool since 31st August against Tottenham.
“Jose has got a little sort of injury at the moment, and we’re waiting to find out what the extent of that is,” said Pascoe
“As for Daniel, he has just been unlucky in that he came back and pulled his calf. He is a great pro, he looks after himself well and he has just been unfortunate. Hopefully we’ll get him back soon.”
Rickie Lambert, Glen Johnson, Kolo Toure, Lucas Leiva and Fabio Borini are all in contention for a recall, while youngsters Jordan Rossiter and Jordan Williams could also be involved.
They’ve been around the first-team squad for a couple of months and have been training with us,” he said.
“There’s always an opportunity to give youngsters a chance in the Capital One Cup. We’d have no qualms about playing them.
“You saw young Jordan Rossiter last time, the coolness he showed in that role and Jordan Williams did well when he came on. They were both very calm in what they did. For a young lad to take a penalty in front of the Kop and score shows you the calmness he has.”
Captain Steven Gerrard, Raheem Sterling, Alberto Moreno are those among those expected to be rested
Probable Line-up (4-3-3): Simon Mignolet; Glen Johnson, Kolo Toure, Dejan Lovren, Brad Smith; Lucas Leiva, Emre Can, Joe Allen; Lazar Markovic, Rickie Lambert, Philippe Coutinho,
